Gulp.....I just charged $1100.
Well, it's official.....we're going to NYC to see a Broadway show with the kids!!!
We are taking the train into NY and going to see "Wicked" this summer. Wow, did it hurt to charge the amount but I know it will be paid off next month and we will get to take a little vacation that's already paid for!!! It was just so weird to actually charge anything. I haven't used a charge card since October of 07!!
I had to really force myself to do it too. My DH and I had agreed to everything before hand but I had put off actaully making the reservations for the last two months. It's so hard to spend money now that we have adopted a frugal lifestyle. Thank goodness we do live fruaglly now. In the past, we would have charged a vacation and still be paying for it years after the fact. It's so nice to actually budget for everything!! Look out New York, here we come!!!!

I've read this three times and tried to think what to write. Here's my honest response:
1.) You'll love Wicked! It's a great show.
2.) According to the totals in your siggie... you owe over $50,000 in credit card debt right now! OMG! That's about what I have left to pay off my house. What are you thinking????
Okay, I know you said it will be paid off next month... but, really??? Couldn't you find something cheaper to do for fun with the kids? It just doesn't seem like you can afford this when you have that much debt already!
Okay... done.

Your concern is appreciated but don't think I would do this with out a plan. We will pay off $30,000 more of our debt this year so this is our only treat to ourselves. You have to live a little too! How much do you spend on vacations really? This is it for us except for a few free museums over the summer. We only have a few more years with the kids before they are too old and too busy to do anything with Mom and Dad. We are going to love this trip!

I hope the trip is a blast
but as for me I would have used that money for something cheaper and paid a bit on the already owed CC's. JMHO.

Sounds like you have a great re-pay plan and I know you wouldn't have posted this frivolous expense unless you had it all lined out! I say, great for you! Never heard of the show but then, we don't go to shows or vacation and that's the real crime.
Do all you can while your children are young. You'll never get that back. Yay to you for figuring in "life" while still being frugal. Yay!"Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

Really, we spend very little on vacations and don't take them when we have other obligations.
It's nice to know you have a plan. Good for you. Enjoy the show.

I think it's wonderful that your dream vacation will be paid off next month. I am being nosy. How much did the tickets cost?

I guess I'm the meanie for being honest. I just think the credit card debt is an incredible amount and I'm sure each and every bit of it was justified.
Absolutely, have fun with your kids! Time does fly by... I have one in college now and one on the way, so I understand. I just think you can have fun and spend time without spending a lot of money to do so.
I'm really not trying to be a kill-joy or uncaring. I was just being honest... you'll still have over $20,000 in credit card debt. I just don't know that I'd be celebrating yet.
But, it's your life... so whatever. You posted... I opined.
Seriously, you'll love the show.

Just curious... how old are the kiddos?
Have they read the book Wicked? My daughters said they thought they enjoyed it more having read the book when we saw it just over a year ago.
