I've been listening to NPR lately and they say this is due to the stock markets, OPEC threatening to reduce production, and the latest trades per barel were over $100 per barrel.

I was gonna say just what Jaimie79 said. I told Gripey as soon as I heard it, 'Quick! run fill the cars up!' but he/we didn't.....
. Isn't it funny how nowadays if a barrell of oil falls out of the back of a pickup in Timbuctu, the price of gasoline goes up in Dallas, Texas?! I think it's all being manipulated......seriously. I've heard all the 'supply and demand, peak oil production', etc. and so on......I still think it's being manipulated.

I think that the prices are ridiculous!!!!
I don't understand how when the oil companies complain that the price of oil is so high that they have to pass along the cost to us, BUT they have a profit EACH quarter in the BILLIONS of dollars. If this happened in any other company the government would step in and claim that the company was price gouging and would be fined.~~~Lisa~~~

Of course, we're being gouged!
Problem is, when prices first started to creep up... consumption didn't decline. So, we sent the signal (as a nation) go ahead... we love our cars, our oil and our consumption... so we'll pay whatever you charge.
Folks must conserve their consumption. It's a shame it's taken doubling prices in 5 years to make people re-think their gas consumption. All this time, the oil companies have been laughing all the way to the bank as we consume the same amount regardless of the costs.

We've gone from $2.97 to $3.11 in less than a week here. I LOVE that I work 2.6 miles from home!

I, for one, HAVE decreased my consumption.....ALOT!!! I lived in a small town of about 2500, and about 30 miles away from "civilization", a town of 400,000. It would be REALLY easy to buzz down there every week for whatever.....but I only let myself go 1-2 times a month, and then I stack all my errands in one trip. A tank of gas in my van lasts me about 3 weeks! We find things to do locally. We are NOT driving as much as we used to........*sigh*, but one household makes precious little difference!

Prices here were $3.13 on Monday. On Friday they were $3.29. I can't imagine what they will be on Monday.
