Land Lord Finally Came to check oven and fridge

We had asked him to come look at our oven and Fridge because they are not working correctly. The oven burns things on the bottom and the top stays gooey. Then the fridge just sounds like a wounded moose when it comes on and doesn't keep the milk as long as the other fridge did.
He looked over the oven and was like looks fine .. this isn't the same kind you had at your last trailer * blinks * ... then he turned it on and the bottom element came on.. see it works then he asks if the top one comes on.. i was like not on regular cooking... so he puts it on broil and tells me if i want the top of something brown i need to put it on that. He asked me if i had anything to bake. So i got some rolls out of the freezer and sat them out. He was like Don't you need to preheat the oven and defrost the rolls. I told him i never have before. These rolls take 13-18 mins depending on how big i make them going into a warm oven. I put them in and he stands around for a few minutes opens the door to the oven. He does that repedatively. The bottom element finally went off 20 minutes into baking. Rolls still were not done on top and were getting dark brown on the bottom. The rack was one down from the top. He goes well to brown the tops you need the other rack over the food. And that maybe i should turn down the oven temp to get the food to cook all the way through. So he is going to have his wife who is a "really good baker" come down and bake with it ,cause its obvious its me, cause i just can't bake. Even though i have probubly baked with over 10 stoves in my life time and never had one do what this one does.
Then he looked at the fridge put a thermometer in it and was like Oh that needs turned down.. looked in the back and ill be darned its all the way down. Plus the trimming on the edge it hard and it doesn't want to stay shut. So he is going to get a new Fridge to put in.
UGH why not get a combo deal fridge and Stove and go ahead and replace both.
Im still pissed because he thinks we are just young and don't know what we are talking about. Grrrrr ... I bet when we get a new fridge that works our electric bill will go down. He told us while he was down there that the people who moved into our old trailer complained about the heater being loud, which we had told him before we moved it was getting loud again. The heater repare man had said that if that happened the fan needed replacing since he replaced the motor and that helped for a little bit. Our landlord was telling us he told them thats the way it sounds. Joe told him the heater repair man needs to replace the fan. Our landlord quickly shut his mouth.Last edited by qtkitty; 02-23-2008 at 09:47 PM.

yah know... i'm still ticked about the way my landlord worded things the other day ... every time i so much as look at my oven i just want to chuck it outside Grrrrr
I made muffins the other night during my time off to try and make Joe feel better. They finally put him in a wheelchair because his back(which has a slipped disk) is hurting him so bad from walking with crutches because of his knee. According to the recipe they are supposed to take 18 mins on 400 degrees F. I put them on the almost top rack with a baking sheet under and 40 mins later we had lightly golden brown muffins on top brown on the bottom. By the next day they were sooooo dry they were inedible.
I WANA BAKE Wahhhhhhhhhh

I totally know what you are going through. We have had so many horrible appliances through the years in our apartments. We once had a gas stove that seemed to be leaking gas. They sent the maintence guy over he said it was fine. But the smell of gas would wake me up at night and everytime I turned it on there would be a small "poof" as it lit. Finally we called the gas company directly. The guy promptly cut of our gas and cited the landlord for unsafe conditions. He said we could have had an explosion at any time and was disgusted that the landlord hadn't done anthing especially since we had 3 small children including a brand new baby. We had a new stove by the end of the day.
Hang in there. Landlords are cheap.

I am sorry to hear that you have poor landlord. I would be so mad, if my landlord told me that I did not know how to bake.
I currently have lazy landlord. It takes weeks to get simple items fixed. The good thing is that he does seem to fix major items. I feel bad for their maintenance man. He does not know what he is doing.
I have also had wonderful landlords. The last one we had (before we moved to a new city), was wonderful. He fixed what was broken and listened to our concerns. A good landlord is like gold.Julie
