    Default Weather reporters (rant ahead)

Anyone sick & tired of the over the top sensationalizing of the weather?
We live in New York, it snows here , has for years & years. Are we turning into a bunch of sissys? You'd think so the way the weather people and others freak out if we get a couple inches of snow. Schools close the day before any snowflake has even found it's way to the ground sometimes. I can see if some major snow/ice event is coming but this is just a few inches...
Hubby had his own freak out this morning and had to turn off the radio this am because they made it seem like the storm of the century was on the way. Buck up & toughen up people.

no kidding. I live in the Rocky Mountains people!! I should expect some snow now and again. I don't understand the panic that seems to set in each time it flurries. Granted, 4-8 inches is something to be concerned about. But when you can still see the ground through the snow...because it's only one flake thick...

Well, ours aren't over dramatizing the weather. I wish they were. I couldn't even finish my shower this AM when my husband comes running in the bathroom telling me we're in a tornado warning, again. I'm so hoping these tornados stop.

Storm center update beeboo beeboo There is the weather guy Steve with his jacket off, sleeves rolled up. Pan to Jim on the street holding a ruler and snow measures an inch, "wow, it's really coming down here...back to you in the studio" "
Steve very concerned says, "Take care Jim, be safe"
"Folks stay indoors, drink plenty of liquids...check on your neighbors"
"Stay tuned for breaking news on this storm, we'll break into normal programming if need be."

    Darlene -
You need to come to central Alabama when there is just the mention of snow. The place goes crazy. If we get so much as a half of inch of accumilation the schools close, sand trucks work overtime, businesses close, toilet paper sells out and all we see on TV is the local weather guy and his assistants showing us endless pictures of houses with snow in the yards.

Fifiteen years ago we got 6 inches and the tri-county area shut down for three days.

LOl, I know some states don't get much snow and the ice can have people stuck in their house for days because they don't have the equipment to handle it. Plows, sanders etc. I have some inlaws in NC and it can wild there.

So they do the old break out the ruler trick there?

I think it's smart to have some supplies on hand to weather a storm, because you worst case scenario would be stuck for a week but some people act as though it will be weeks & weeks. With our stockpile we are ready for anything. We have gas, water, wood...Be strong, be self sufficient. Man.

What's up with the TP? Honestly, how many rolls of tp does a family go thru in a week?

I try to make sure i'm stocked up in the winter time because if the roads are bad we can stay inside.

Our school only closed 2 days this year compared to about 5-6 days like the other schools. Our school does not provide bussing so they don't care about the roads.

I am very paranoid in the winter. I have to do all the driving because my dh doesn't have a license. He scares the crap out me more than the weather!!! He is obsessed (sp) with the weather channel to the point that I made it a rule twice a night. At 6 and before bed he can watch it otherwise he would have it on 24/7, That just makes more anxiety for me. Last year it was so bad that he actually caused me to have a panic attack. Then he kinda backed off. But you have tohand it to the wether people.. where else can you be wrong 7 days a week and still have a job?
