    Default My "new" car

As some of you may remember, I'm a home health nurse and I put A LOT of miles on my car every year. (Around 30,000- 40,000) My little Mazda, which we bought in cash 4 years ago for around $4500 had around 166,000 miles on her and had sprung an oil leak. Unfortunately, as muchas I loved that car, it was time to let her go. So, I've been monitoring Craigslist pretty religiously for the past few weeks and I finally found something that DH and I thought was a really good deal. It's a 1997 Mercury Tracer station wagon with only 54,000 miles on it that we bought for $2500. It was owned an elderly gentleman who passed away a year ago or so. He would drive it to visit his wife in a nursing home/assisted living (where many of my patients just happen to live). The son and daughter were finally selling the car to help pay for their mom's private care.

The car is in GREAT shape and we had it checked out. Even though I miss my little Mazda, I'm very excited about our "new" car buy. Because we paid for it in cash, it has depleted our EF, but now we can concentrate on just building up the EF instead of using the account as both a car fund and an EF. We should have the EF built up in about 8 months and we'll also be putting away money for my next "new" car. (I always figure my cars to last about 3-4 years, with all the mileage I put on them.) I'm including a pic of my new Tracer wagon below.

Thanks, everyone! I think we got a pretty good deal. My DH is happy to not have to put oil into it every morning as he had been doing with my previous car. And ALL the radio stations work with this one. My Mazda's radio had gotten stuck on one station for the past few months. Thank goodness it was a decent one, but it's nice to have a little variety.
