Default With all of this talk about food prices going up...

I decided to check out the price of spaghetti noodles at one of our grocery stores here in Quebec Canada while picking up a few things this afternoon. I almost passed out right there in the store! $2.69 for a 900g pack of Primo noodles. Last year this time I could pay about .99 cents for a pack.

Then I went to peak at the flour, for a 5 pound bag of store brand it was $7.99.

When I got home I checked out the weekly sale flyers for this upcoming week and the I.G.A is having a sale on the Primo noodles 900g for $1.25, I will be stocking up on a few of those that is for sure.

I also noticed as well how certain foods have gone down in packaging size. Like cheese last year we could get 600g for $5.99 but now for the same cheese it is 520g for $6.99.

I use to make my pasta from scratch... but with the price of flour going up, it will end up about the same.

Our Dollar Tree sells elbows and egg noodles 2/$1 right now.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I almost cried. I know I listed a lot of convenience foods (frozen pizza, oreos, etc.) but those aren't something we buy hardley ever. I haven't bought Oreos in three months. I went to pick some up for Wesley because he has been so good lately and has been remembering his manners and I about croaked! I have seriously not bought a frozen pizza in probably 6 months! But good golly, they are outrageous!

My local store had a B1G1 free sale this week. Seems like everything I bought had doubled in price from last year.

I noticed in traveling to my local Hostess "outlet" store that even THEIR breads were kind of expensive. I remember you'd be able to get like 5 loafs for $1. -- it was like 2 for $1.79 or something.

Thanks for the heads up on pasta though. I'll be stocking up on that next time I get the chance! I've been waiting for this .49 cent bag of pasta at the Italian grocery I go to, but they've been stuck at .99 cents a bag. Maybe they won't be going back down ... ONLY UP!

I guess I have to change my mindset of what a deal is and pick up on some of these opportunities.

That Pepsi...is that price for a 12 pack?

Oreos are 2/$6 and have been for at least a year now. Sometimes they go on sale for $2.50. Not sure about shredded cheese (I shred ours myself), we don't have Frozen Jacks here.

Chocolate milk--is that price per gallon? I don't buy it, so I can't compare prices. Downy and All prices are about the same here. Not sure about diapers since I haven't bought any in about 5 yrs. Trash bags...same price here.

Bread is higher here. It's insane. A pack of Thomas' English muffins was $3.99 here last week. $3.99!!!!

I feel the same way. The prices are definitely higher than they were six months ago. The dairy and breads are outrageous. I don't notice as big of a jump in chicken or beef. Soda has gone through the roof, but I rarely buy it. OJ is also much more than it was.

I just came from Sav-a-Lot. They have 1# frozen chubs of ground turkey for 99c--made by Butterball. I bought 10. Butter was STILL 1.99 and I bought 4 of those. I'm using gr turkey now instead of gr hamb. Self rising flour-1.69. Keep a notebook on store prices.....

Since the weather is starting to get nicer, I think I will head to Sav-a-lot. I did look at a 5LB bag of flour it was $1.99. Unfortunately I don't know if I will use it before it goes bad.

Thank you! I have been trying to stock up on all my flour for baking and stuff, but pasta never crossed my mind. Guess I will be adding that to my list now...

Don't be worried about flour getting bugs or anything. My grandma always put her flour in the freezer for at least 24 hours, and never got a bug.
