Default The USAF gave dh the word...

    We're moving to.....

Vandenberg Air Force Base near Santa Maria, CA.

If anyone can recommend a real estate agent or areas to live I'd be thankful. That is if we can even afford to live off base.

    Hi!
No recommendations - but congrats! CA is lovely! My husband is from there.
We are waiting to hear where we will go next. It will still be a year before we leave - but we are on pins and needles!! Enjoy the lovely weather and a greener community!

Can I just take a moment to say "Thank you"? Your hubbies get recognized from time to time for what they do (although not NEARLY the amount of recognition that they deserve) but I don't think that a lot of people realize what the WIVES go through.

I've lived in the same area my entire life . . . but my hubby was a Navy brat and moved everywhere. I've had some good talks with his mom about what it is like to be the spouse of someone in the military. My biggest fear would be moving someplace new and leaving everything familiar (and all my friends) and starting over in a way. My hat is off to you ladies.

And, dianne9106, you're in my neck of the woods! Clarksville is about 30 minutes south of me. We drove down there this summer (on the advice of a friend) and ate at a little hole-in-the-wall across from Gate #1 called Yamamoto's. Had a lot of fun

Congrats on your new base! We have friends that are stationed there and live in base housing They said the base housing is nice.

Do you know if there is a wait for housing? I just don't want to get into a situation where to buy is too expensive and we end up house poor. Just when I was getting our EF built up. Now we'll have to use it to finish fixing up this house and get it on the market ASAP.

    Paula,

I don't know the area but you may want to just google:

    Santa Maria, CA
Santa Maria, CA, chamber of commerce
    School Matters

I looked at these last night and their sites have a bunch of information for you.

**you may want to ask your current realstate agent if they know someone or can suggest an office in your new area.

    Good Luck,

Not sure about if there's a wait list

Here's a good site with info on Vandenberg
    http://apps.mhf.dod.mil/pls/psgprod/...P6_INST_ID:805

If you click on "Housing, Government" you can see a wait timetable. Looks like it's a 3-6 months wait for housing. You might be able to contact them ahead of time to see if you can be placed on the wait list before you get there

    GL with your move!

Yeah as soon as he has hard orders we'll get on the list. Looks like buying a house is way out of our price range w/ most 3 bed. 2 bath over $400,000! That's more than double our house here.
