Thanks for the well wishes!
I posted last week about interviewing for a new family. They didn't come to me, but I did an interview today and this family will be coming!
They are accomodating that I want a couple days a month to attend school with dd4. They are accepting my rate with no question. As of this fall $700/mo. They will pay me through summer at 50% even though the little guy will not be here, as she is a teacher. This will guarentee their spot. They were really nice.
So that is one spot filled, as one mom is expecting.
I have another spot that I'll advertise this summer, another expecting mom. But not until end of October.
One more family is expecting, I don't know what they aer doing. They are adopting a 3rd child. Their 2 are in care 2 afternoons a week. They told me they would continue bringing the 2. However, last week, they said their dd2 will be in preschool, so they'd bring the youngest 2. I won't have room for a newborn. Nor do I want a brand new baby in care, as much as I LOVE newborns. It would take too much time away from the other little ones, so I might have another spot to fill! A full change over..lol.
That's ok. A new set of family means I get a pay raise! Up to $200/mo total more. With this new family it'll mean $90 more(rate increase of $50, plus the little guy that is "leaving" will still come one day a week when I have the space) so when I replace the other little one that'll mean another $50 increase, and if these 2 part timers leave, that'll open up another fulltime space, actually 2. Which could REALLy increase my income. As long as everyone is cool witht he 2 days a month.

Don't know if I'd say killer, but my earning potential is pretty good for being home.
Part of my success right now is my age. I'm not the "new" mom anymore. I have young teens to preschoolers. So I'm "seasoned".
Thanks! I don't have any openings, just up coming, and I'm pretty sure. I filled this one without actively advertising it. People call "just in case" there's an opening. I kinda like it.

Congratulations! I think daycare has improved so much for providers since I did it back in the 90's. If a child was sick or the family decided grandma would watch them for a week most asked if I would deduct it from their bill. It took me several years to learn to say no. I did give each family two weeks of time (either individual days or a block of time scheduled in advance) each year they could take with no payments to me and I never charged if I needed time off.
Most considered it just babysitting, a way for me to earn a little extra. I really had to learn to treat it not only as child care but also a business. It's great you have found a family that understands this is also your livelyhood.

It started as a way to make a little extra, but now it's a business. This really is a way for me to stay home and make ends meet. I make more working from home than I would working out of the home. So there is no reason to go out to work. Now if I have sick kids, I'm hear, not rushing to find care, to get some one to cover for me etc. Being I'm stipulating I can potentially take 2 days a month right in my contract, makes it awesome.
I'm caring for teachers kids now too. They get stats off, Christmas, spring break and summer. All occasions are paid. Summer at a rate of 50%, but if I chose, I can do back up care for other families. This works out great though, because I usually only make 75% in the summer because of our summer vacations, so it works out not bad for me.
With any luck, I'll fill the new upcoming spaces iwth teachers and get the summers OFF. Wouldn't that be awesome???
