what do you do.... food?
what do you do when you know you need to eat, but don't feel hungry?
what do you end up eating?
i'm feeling like this more & more often... and i just give up on finding anything that remotely seems appealing.

Oh, were you serious?
No, seriously......this is never my problem. I'm sorry.....I'm absolutely no help. My problem is that I love to eat, can eat everything all the time......I hope you find a solution.....really, didn't mean to make light of it, hope I didn't offend.

lol PR, now that i re-read what i wrote, it is a little funny.

but yeah i'm serious.
i just get so tired of making all this great food, that i won't/can't eat, and i get kinda bummed... (i make some chicken meals (for the boys) or they really enjoy cheese in/on foods... and i cant/wont eat meat or cheese).
but a lotta times while cooking i actually lose my appetite!
and then i end up trying to figure out "what should i eat?"

LOL, unfortunately I don't often find myself in that situation. On the rare occassion that I do, I will usually through some crispy fries in the oven and call it good. Healthy? Nah. Edible, Yep.

Sometimes I don't feel good or have a migrane and don't want to cook at all. When that happens, I eat something very simple, like toast with peanut butter, ramen noodles, tortilla chips with cheese and salsa. Not the healthiest choices, of course, but very quick and simple.

I do the same thing as Amy...I just kind of snack on things. Popcorn, chips & salsa, apples w/peanut butter, a banana, chex mix, etc. I don't feel like that often, but when I do, I usually end up eating somewhat healthier than I normally. Maybe it's my body's way of getting what it needs!?!? Who knows?! Hope you're feeling better soon!

I keep flour tortilla shells (soft taco shells), a bag of shredded lettuce, and salad dressing in the fridge at all times. I microwave a tortilla shell for 15 seconds, add some lettuce, salad dressing, roll it up like a burrito and eat.
I also keep a jar pf PB and get a spoonfull of it.
I love 100 calorie packs. We always pick up a box or two of different kinds from Sam's every week. I will sometimes just grab a bag and snack on that.
Nine times out of ten, there is not any food that sounds good to me so I grab one of the above or something similar.

I'm more interested in WHY?
What is making you lose your appetite when making food?
Is it the smell?
Is there something triggering nausea or lack of appetite?
Is it a side effect of medications?
Are you losing your sense of smell?

I'm a "non-eater". Which is amazing when you think about the fact that I need to lose weight
But I guess it's a common problem.
I've found I eat better when I actually plan ahead. I know my body needs fuel, so I decide what I'm going to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a couple of snacks and I schedule it in. I remind myself that it's time to eat "X" and eat. No deciding, cuz most of the time I could care less what it is lol.

I love a bowl of "old fashioned" oats, cooked in the microwave with a spoonful of peanut butter stirred in. That is what I made myself for dinner tonight, in fact. It is satisfying, yummy, and heart healthy. I usually have a piece of fruit on the side.
Fruit and yogurt smoothies are good in warmer weather. In a blender, put one banana, about 3/4 cup of frozen fruit, a half cup of plain (I use nonfat) yogurt, and a half cup of orange juice. Blend until smooth, pour into a frosty mug, add a straw and sip.

I'm hardly ever without an appetite but for those who don't have one, you should eat protien and the carbohydrates in fruits/ veg and whole grains.
You should have a blender at least, its easier to drink food than eat it for people with no appetite I would think.
eggs are good, you can make them up so many different ways and they are good with nutrition too.

My mother's answer to what to eat when you don't feel well was milk/toast. And I do the same thing today. I make a piece of toast, and warm some milk, adding a bit of sugar and sometimes cinnamon, and pour it over the toast. Don't know if this is what you have in mind.

thanks everyone for posting...
i dont know why, but most days i dont have an appetite. maybe because food has a low priority - for me personally (but not my family).
i have no issues w/ sense of smell or that.
some foods do make me ill to smell/look at - but i can always call on dh to fill in if/when that happens.
i think making oats (never tried w/pb!) or plain toast might just "fill the necessary void"...
i've never heard of milk-toast! might have to look into that...
and i totally forgot about smoothies!!!
that's usually a summer meal for me, since it's iced or at least chilled.
winter time i live off of tea mostly & coffee when i wanna splurge.
it's like i wake up in the morning, have a small breakfast, workout, do my daily stuff, have a decent lunch, and after that no appetite.
i just really realized it tonight making dinner, and i just couldn't even look at the food once it was done. i felt like i'd already eaten a full meal (like my stomach wasnt hungry).
anyway, it doesnt matter.
i really appreciate your responses & am gonna write down some of these ideas!
thanks

I bought a vitamix in december, they had them at Costco, wow would that ever be great for you.
You could eat all kinds of good things and think your drinking a smoothie.
tonight I made a small
health drink... tasted so good. You see in the vitamix it pulverizes and not just blends so you can have not only the whole fruit ( seeds and all) with all the benefits of raw food too.
I made it with 2 frozen strawberries, some kale, carrots, cabbage, ice, water and spenda.
other than the color ( brown) it was so refreshing and filling.
I made one because I've been so thirsty.............
those drinks are just out of this world.
My favorite is a morning drink
with any fruit in season or that you like, a little cottage cheese ( for the protien) and vanilla soy milk, cabage, carrot and kale.
you can make "green" drinks, dessert drinks, alcohol drinks ( if thats what you like) .. even soup with bits of this and that.
Once I made a peanut butter and bannan smoothie with bananna, peanut butter, ice and soy milk, it was soooo sooo good !!!
For someone who doesn't care much for food...
it would be awesome to look into.
You get so many vitmins from all the fresh fruits and veggies...
and energy.
The problem is you'd get to feel so good, your appetite would come back ! LOL !

You might avoid tea and coffee. When I drink these in excess they suppress my appetite.
