What is your home square footage?

How much per month on average do you spend to heat and cool your home?

Ours is 2900 sq ft, but that does include the walkout basement since we use it. So far this Winter our highest gas (heating) bill has been $168 & some change. During the warmer months we do not use central cooling, but do have 2 room size air conditioners, 1 in each occupied bedroom. Electric during these times runs right around $110 until my dad pulls in then it runs around $198...those figures are based on last years costs. This year I see those costs going up, since our light bill is costs more now with less consumption than in past years.

My house was built in the 50's and is a little over 1000 sq.feet. It costs an average of 100 a month for electric, with all things being electric. It would be less if we did a major overall on weather proofing, but that would be a major renovation.

I should mention that our winter temp is -20ºC on average for 6 months, and a little warmer for the remaining 3 months of winter.

the tax records say one thing abd the builders plans say another... I would say about 1800 sq foot.
I have total electric and electric runs about 125-150 a month averaged over all 12 months.
I have really good insualtion on the outside ( 3/4 inch thick insulation under my alcoa vynil siding) and inside ( thermal cutains to block out heat) and very, very large trees in a good postion to block out the hot summer sunshine during the dog days of summer......so its lower than many of my neighbors who have told me they pay as much as 400-500 a month.
This is recently, used to be way cheap at 30-60 a month, but not anymore.
Winter is not much of a concern as there is maybe a week of days where it freezes out.

We have 2500 sq. ft, plus a full finished basement that we heat. We are all electric, and the monthly bill in the winter is about $140.

We just moved, so I don't know about our new totals for heating and cooling this place, which is what brought on this question.

Upstairs, where we live, is 810 sqft. It's central heat (gas) and air. There's good insulation. The living/dining/kitchen is all open and there's 6 almost floor to ceiling south facing windows to light it up very well.

Downstairs is a small 342 sqt apartment, will be only used when we'll have guests visit. It has a window unit AC and an electric radiator for heat.

I'm hoping our utility bills will be less than I've been paying or years. Typical electric and gas combined have been anywhere between $200-300 a month. Can't wait to find out what they will run here.

Thanks for the replies, this is interesting!

We have 4000sqft. BUT 1000 of that is in the attic (3 rooms, HUGE hallway, and 2 storage areas) that is not heated. So 3000sqft of living space that we use.

Our gas & electric bill is all in one. We pay $270/month year round for gas and electric (budget plan). We have natural gas heat/hot water/stove and electric everything else. We do not have central air.

We have 2400 SF to heat and cool. Or highest heating bill this winter (gas) was $160.00....our electric in the winter runs about $55.00.

To run the AC during the summer our electric bill averages about $140.00

Our home was built in the 1800's.It is almost 5,000 square feet on three levels. We only use the third floor for storage and the g- kids roller skate and ride bikes up there, so we try to close it off . This month our heating bill was about 330 dollars, electic heat and using the fireplaces.
