How much should I offer to pay...
As some of you know my eldest son is in hock to me up to his eyebrows. We do have some things I could pay him to do around here with the understanding what pay him would come off of his tab. That being said, we are going to have him paint the garage this Spring. The garage is 32 x 28, with two windows, 1 entry door and 1-10 x 16 garage door and the eaves need to be painted too.
We would buy all of the paint/supplies...how much should we offer to pay? I want to pay him by the job, not the hour...will get more efficient work out of him that way.
Any suggestions????"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

Could you maybe call a painting company and get an idea of what they would charge and then cut that down by half or a third?
I know I painted a room once. And exactly once, because one room took so much time and labor and two coats...it was a PITA let me tell you...but since he owes you out the gazoo...he will have to work it off or pay it off right? Let us know what number you come up with!"That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

Hmmm I paid a friend $250 to paint the trim on garage and strip and paint deck. Took him about 15 hours. I say maybe somewhere around that?
edited to add I had it appraised to do and they quoted me over $1000!!!!

Its expensive to hire a painter. I had my kitchen done and one wall in the living room, mind you I had no walls in my kitchen and its was 350. We only did it because we were putting the house for sale and had a million things on the list to do.

I would suggest that his pay be comparable to what you would expect to pay someone else to do the same job. Maybe neighbors will see him painting and would hire him to do some painting for them as well.

I would say call a painting company and ask them to estimate the cost of what the labor on a job like that would cost ( if they ask why just the labor tell them you have paint left fromt the last time it was painted )
