Bunnies or Playground? Opinions Needed
hi all,
As many of you already know, the houseapes & I have a small rabbitry in our backyard - 13 rabbits. We've had this hobby now for about 10 yrs. Its been going pretty good until the last few months - the price of feed is going up & the bunnies have usually pay for theirselves w/ their offspring - only the offsprings aren't as many as they used to be. Something would always happen to them for some reason or another.
Anyway, I've been wanting to install a nice playground (one of those wooden ones w/a club house)for the younger kiddos in the backyard, but to do so, we would have to get rid of the rabbitry b/c there wouldn't be enough room for both. Our family has discussed the issue of getting rid of the rabbitry & although the kids(& I) would hate to see the bunnies go, the thoughts of my kids having a blast for years to come & creating memories is starting to outweigh keeping the rabbitry.
Also there would be alot of logic in getting rid of the rabbitry - we live in a hurricane alley-if we were to have a major hurricane, we couldn't take the rabbits w/us if we needed to evacuate. We've had to evacuate 2X since having rabbits & we have had to move them into the garage- the wooden hutches are a pain to move.
But then again-the other side of the story is the attachment thing -we like our bunnies & there has been alot of hard work invested in the rabbitry.
I already know what the logical thing to do would be, but I would really appreciate your opinions- what would you do? (sorry for a long post)

I would definatly go with the swingset. Not only will your kids love it you will have less work to do because you don't have to feed and care for the swingset lol
We bought a big swingset with the playhouse built in last year and my kids LOVE it! Ours even came with a spiral slide.

I'd go with the swingset too. or maybe comprimise with a smaller set, and keep a bunny.

Missy has a good suggestion. You might even be able to find someone else to take all of them and maybe you could visit them.
Let us know what you decide.

Kids are only young for a little while, time to play!

We have room for both livestock and a huge swingset. I think the kids get a lot more from their animals than the swingset. I just asked them which they'd prefer to keep, and they all said the animals (except the 15mo old, who's napping). If you can't have both, which would your kids rather have?

I say the swingset. I was just telling DH yesterday I wish we had bought our kids one of the big wooden swingset/forts w/all of the extras when they were small.
Darlene said it best. They are only little once - time to play.
