I'm a little po'd!
We were expecting a refund from the dentist for a little under $750 for dd4 dental work(we had to prepay).
Today there's a letter from her, I open it. There's a check for $155.33. And a blank paper.
I log into the insurance site. I do teh calculations, she shorted us $590!! on the nose. Plus she wrote the check out to dh. I was the one that paid(not a major issue but a matter of principle).
So I call the office, and the receptionist said there was 3 refunds issued. It would be nice to have gotten a letter with the check to explain what was going on, a statement of account. All we got was a check that shorts us $590!! I'm just a little po'd about it. So far we received 1 check, owed 2 more I guess.
She had better call me back today, or I'll be at the office in the morning demanding an explanation and a check. I have the statements printed from the insurance. I have to find the receipts for the prepayment I made. I did cash, debit and cc. I have the proof on the cc and debit. Need the cash one though. If she refuses, I'm calling the insurance company and reporting it as fraud!

They called back and she's cutting a check for the $590 today.
Good thing I was on top of it. I wonder about the last time then.... oh well. I'm getting all that is owed with no real hassle, so that is good.

You just got to love them don't you? They want their money in advance even though you had insurance & now they are playing games. I'm guessing they put the check in your dh's name because the insurance is in his name or maybe through where he works???
Glad they are coming through with the balance...that should help you rest a little easier."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

They offered to have it ready for me to pick up. They were quick to pay... but I have no idea why they held back...maybe in hopes I don't know how to add?

I would have been upset too. Isn't it amazing what happens when you call and question things like this? Glad you're getting your full refund soon.

I would have been ticked off too, more wasted paper when they should have just made it for the full amount.

I guess they were hoping you couldn't add or didn't have time to add.... I guess it works for them sometimes and why they do it.
A vet did this to me once when I had to put a dog to sleep and billed me for all kinds of things with the putting down of my dog, like steriod shots ( dog didnt get any, so why they billed for this is beyond me and also for surgery the dog never got... came to 800 dollars).
When I called them about it they got an attitude as to why I questioned the bill and since then and a new dog I started going somewhere else.

It doesn't even seem to make sense that they were gong to do it as 3 checks instead of one......very fishy! Glad you're getting the rest of your $$$

I had never heard of having to "pre-pay" until my dentist retired. I went to a new dentist and they made me pay up front. It made me a little mad that I pay so much for health insurance and yet I have to "pre-pay" and then basically track my own check. I only went there once and am changing because I don't like their policies.

If it's just an office visit I haven't needed to prepay, they bill out the difference once the insurance pays, however with her going under general, she has to pay for the facility and the anaesthesiologist upfront. If we don't show, she's out the money. I don't mind prepaying. Since there was no time to do a pre-auth, I had no way of knowing if that part was even covered, which it was 100%. This is common practice here. She's not unusual in this policy.
