New here....
Hello all! I am new here. I am "starting over" in life. I have three children DS8, DD7, DS6 and myself. Our budget looks bleak. I am fortunate that I am educated and have a good job. (I am a nurse. I can move anywhere in the US and find a good job pretty quick.) My largest expense, naturally, will be child care. And that's discount child care provided by a family member. Here's what I think my budget will look like.
Income: $1200/biweekly
Outgo:
- Child Care - $300/biweekly
- Car - $445/mo
- Insurance - $245/mo
- Credit Card - $25
- Cell Phone - $90/mo
- Credit Card2 - $165/mo
- Phone/Internet - $75/mo
- Gasoline - $50/week
- Electric - $150/mo
- Water/Trash - $40/mo
I am assuming that I will not see any child support, so this budget relies only on my own income and at my usual 7 12s per biweekly pay period. It does not include working any extra. As you can see, this leaves "not much" for groceries. Any and all help will be appreciated. I know I will learn quite a bit from reading here.

I think I am using the wrong terminology. I mean I get paid every two weeks.
Nope, I looked it up to be sure. I am using it correctly.Bi-weekly, sometimes referred to as fortnightly, is a reference to an event that occurs once every two weeks. A two week interval is equivalent to one fortnight. An example of a biweekly event would be the production of some magazines or the payday of some companies.Last edited by dansamy; 03-20-2008 at 10:49 PM.

I'm sorry I thought it meant 2 times a week to be bi weekly.
Guess you meant bi monthly ? ( not sure)
I was thinking that was a good salary at 100k a year
welcome, I am a nurse too
although not doing nursing anymore.

I could make a 100k per year, but that would be travel nursing and I can't do that with kids as young as mine are and no spouse to hold down the home front.

Welcome to the village, you will meet a lot of nice people here and gain alot of knowledge from their experiences. We're glad to have you aboard. My daughter is a RN in the operating room. Being a nurse is a great job and one with many rewards. we'll look forward to seeing your posts.

Finishing nursing school was without a doubt the best financial decision I ever made. I know I can raise them and feed them on my own if that's what it takes. It will be a tight budget, but that's ok.

Welcome.
You have come to a great place.
Do you not pay for any housing? Because with everything added up you still have $815.00 left. Could you lower your cell phone plan? My DH and I only pay 70 for both of us. What about your insurance? It seems high,I am not sure where you live but we pay 128 a month and that is for a great plan.
Just some ideas.
