Default I stink at coloring eggs!

How hard could it be? You drop a little color tablet into a cup of water with a little vinegar, add your egg, wait a little bit, dig the egg out, and let it dry. Yeah, did all those things with DD (18 monthsand a first timer at this)and we had a blast, but those stinkin' eggs don't look pretty!

Oh, well the main thing is that we had fun!

    you can let them soak...
also in a cup, put only enough
colored liquid to cover HALF the egg
remove and then put in another color halfway.
you'll have a two colored egg

you can also use a crayola crayon and write on the egg before soaking.

You could decoupage them if you dont want to use color you know ( see my gallery if you dont know what decopauge is)

    whats so ugly about yours?

They still make color tabs that require vinegar? I just buy the ones you only have to add water too.

I just wish it weren't so messy
I'm sure your dd thinks the eggs are beautiful!

She loved it. The box said that vinegar would make them brighter, so that's why I added them.
The color on the eggs looks cracked, even though the eggs are smooth. We only colored 6 - that's plenty for her. Thanks for the suggestions - I'm not going to redo them, but I'll save the info for next time

I haven't colored eggs in years. DD is no longer interested in doing that. Oh, well. We used the tablets and the little "shrink wrap" thingies. They ususally came out very pretty.

I remember my mom using food coloring and vinegar.

When we color eggs I use water, a little vinegar and food coloring. For some reason food coloring has always worked out better for us than the tablets. I don't get to color eggs this year...some of the grandkids live out of state and the other ones had the flu this week.

For some reason the coloring kit I bought this year only had 3 tablets in it. So the other colors I made with food coloring, vinegar and boiling water. The ones we dipped into the food coloring were much prettier than the ones made with the tablets. They were really bright and they didn't have to set in the liquid forever.

I love coloring eggs, the kids are grown and no grandkids, but I still color a few every year, it wouldn't be easter morning without colored easter eggs. This year I used beet juice and some strong tea to color them, came out fine. Now to the shredder with a paper bag to make my grass to put in my basket for the table tomorrow. I know, some of us just never grow up!

Like mombotto (above) I never bought the fizzies or tablets. My mom always put some boiling water(from a tea kettle) into coffee mugs, added different colors of your own food coloring (like used to color icing on cookies or cakes)--and this way you can add as many drops as you wish to make the colors darker or brighter! Use red and yellow to make orange, and blue and red to make purple. And the other colors are already in the bottles. Voila!

And she added 1 Tbsp of vinegar to each coffee mug, along with the boiling water and colors.

Her colors were bright and beautiful and I just followed suit and did the same thing when my kids were growing up.

Don't worry, there's always next year. I'm sure your dd likes the eggs. Pastels are pretty too!

You know, I have NEON food coloring I got at the dollar store...maybe I'll try that in addition to the tablets we got. The kids love it when the eggs are BRIGHT because they like to color on the eggs w/ white crayons before dipping...their names, cars, flowers, etc.

I don't have any little ones anymore, grandson thinks he's too old for coloring eggs. I miss all the fun of dying the eggs, I might just dye half a dozen using food coloring.
