Yes. I will die here. Is it my dream home? No. Will it be paid for before we retire? Yes. Kids are getting ready to leave and DH and I are more than ready to sit back, relax, and do a few things we would like to do. Things that will not happen with a mortgage payment, college payments, or supporting 5 people.
Dh and I have moved a total of 12 times in 22 years. Not to mention the fact that I was brought up in the service and moved all over the country growing up. I am done.

What a wonderful situation you are in. Your home is paid for and you only have to work part-time. Maybe you should sit down and weigh your options as far as staying where you are versus moving into a detached home. You probably will come up with your answer.

We are probably not in our forever home but are pretty happy and comfortable for right now. Somewhere down the road, a long road we may consider moving someplace else. But not just yet.
" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."

Yes, *I* think I am, but I know dh would like to move. This is the home I raised our boys in, and I'm leaving when they take me out feet first in a body bag. It's going to kill me if we ever 'have' to leave.

There's no way that this is our forever home. We're running out of room as it is and DD is still a toddler. We'll be buying another house before we have any more kids. DH and I have talked and our forever home will be one that we build and design ourselves. That way everything will be just the way we want it.

My house is not our forever house. However it is big enough for us and with the way the economy is heading we plan on staying put. At the ages of 40 and 42 we are at the point in our lives where we just want to work at getting the mortgage paid off as soon as possible and be able to pay for ds college and then enjoy ourselves.

Am I in my 'forever home'? Heck No!!!

I wanted something with more land than the 4 foot plot of dirt outside my slider. We have started looking at houses again. As nice as they are, and some are in our price range, they are 2 levels and don't have a bedroom on the first floor.

Some things are 'wants' like a fireplace, or an area for a wood burning stove, lots and lots of windows and land, land, land...

Some things are 'needs' like a bedroom, bathroom, livingroom, kitchen and laundry room on the first floor. DD's room can be on the second floor...

I am 36, have FMS and have a real problems with stairs. I know as I get older I will -need- a ranch style home.

We also have dreams of selling when DD graduates and moving South and building a house because the New England weather is causing havoc on my body.

We -could- stay here... it's paid for, it's one level, it meets all my 'needs' but none of my 'wants'. No one know what the future holds, but I will always dream and scheme
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

We are possibly in our forever home; however, it's more likely we will only be here until the kids are grown and married; at least another 15 years. We just added on and are remodeling the kitchen. We're now very happy and comfortable with the extra, remodeled space.

Yes, we are in our forever home. We had a stick house for 12 years and a second mortgage; it took half my dh's income just to make the two payments. Now we live in a nice single wide mobile with an oversize 1 car garage. We own our own lot and the payment is affordable and stable. We arranged for the taxes and insurance to be included in the payments so no worrys about coming up with that either.

It has a low upkeep fenced yard. It was remodeled with new carpet and paint and bathrooms. We will need to upgrade appliances... we are putting money back to do that with cash. It was empty about two years ... part of that time it was being remodeled, so there is some catch up work to be done. The utilities are on level monthly pay so no seasonal surprises.

All our kids are in their own homes, we are in a seniors "park". We bought nice new furniture (most of it is new anyway) so that should be good for the rest of our lives. It is small enough for me to keep clean but has enough room to move around in.

I am 55, dh is 52 ... still at least 15 years of working ahead for him. We are trying to rid ourselves of all debt and stay that way ... keep our car in good shape so we don't have to buy another one.

As someone said, we have been "casting off" for six years ... gave away or sold most of what we owned in the rental moves. Now, when we buy .. we try to buy things that will do more then one job and will make our life easier. I got rid of 1000's of books .. now I don't really care any more but it killed me when I did it. We are also trying to live a greener life and a more frugal life.

We are DEFINITELY in our forever home until the kids get out of college. Then, we'd downsize and probably have two homes (lake house in north or central us and a winter home in south.) That's the plan anyway.

What a great question! I'm so surprised to learn that many of you are in the same position as me

I love my house, it's a craftsman-style, cozy, and cheap living! It will be paid off in about 5 years.

BUT, it's too close to the city. We want to move to a more rural area. I'd like to be in the woods, with privacy and sounds of nature.

But then my kids won't come 'home' to the house they grew up in. Does that matter? Won't that be a little sad?
