Default There's a Mouse in the House!

    Ick...yuck...poo! :surprise: :surprise:

This isn't our first bout with the little critters, but it's been over a year. This time, though, they are smart little (*&*&^)'s. You'd think they'd come in when it was cold, not when it warms up.

I know all about traps and the like. We are using sticky traps, because that's what worked before. Does anyone have any tried and true tricks for outwitting the little buggers?

(don't say 'get a cat'. Dd and I are deathly allergic)

    an owl? a snake?? KIDDING!!!

The backbreakers worked for us, i never tried the sticky traps. Peanut butter really seemed to draw them into the traps. is there a place in the sticky trap you could put a tiny dollop of it to attract them? It worked for us. Then find out where they are "nesting" too. and how they got in so you can repair the entry point.

Wish i had some better advice. GOod luck. They give me the "yucks" and the heebie jeebies too.

Yikes, we had mice and the only thing we did was put out those sticky traps and we had some exterminatior come in (we rented so we didnt pay for it) and we used to find dead mice in the basement. Good luck with getting rid of them.

Also, if you have the sticky traps, put peanut butter on them, they will surely get caught up in it.

    Angry sticky traps

are unbelievable sadistic. the mouse doesn't die in it, but i am guessing you don't then humanely smother it with a bowl over the trap but throw it directly into the garbage to starve to death. they cannot help what they are but we can. be humane. don't use those traps.

OMG Just the thought freeaks me out!! We had a mouse about 6 weeks ago & I was a nervous wreck. I found 2 dead ones right next to my washer & I was horrified to go to laundry. They are totally harmless, but they creep me out. Good luck with those little poop heads!!!

Good ole sticky traps where you've seen signs is wat we do. A couple conventional ones with peanut butter tightly wedged in next to them is a nice bonus too.

How do you expect to get them off the traps? I tried to get them off those traps and it only rips their skin off, you suggest we watch them suffer by smothering them by putting a bowl over them? That to me sounds cruel in itself.

Since you don't have cats D-Con would be a good bet. I personally don't like it cuz it's cruel IMHO, but if you don't want mice it works!

I'd use whatever it took to get rid of them. The peanut butter is a great lure.

Other things I thought of was that you've got little ones around. So the decon is probably not a good option.(unless the area where you'd put it and the mice are at won't come in contact with the kiddos at all) When cleaning up the mouse droppings, wear a dust mask and gloves. The hantavirus (sp) isn't something to fool with. I don't know how big a deal it is up where you are, but it's a big deal here. Wash hands and surfaces thoroughly.

At ace hardware i think it is...they have these "UV Light" things that track them. Since you don't have a cat, it would be easy to distinguish rodent urine trails (mice are incontinent ewwwww, and their droppings provide a trail) so you might have a better chance at catching the boogers.

We have several of those plug in mouse repellants and they seem to work really well. We've only seen one little guy in the year since we bought them.

Go to your local farm supply and get poison that won't hurt other animals or children and put it out of reach.
It takes care of them in a few days.
Thats what we use on the farm or the
    spring traps with peanut butter.
If you use the sticky trap pop them in the head to kill and then toss in the garbage.

We had squirrels in the attic once and I got something that was like decon but for big rodents and it drives them out and then they die...

Humane I doubt it BUT if you don't want rodents they you have to kill them. Sticky traps would freak me out I don't want to see the mouse they give me the creaps! I would rather use a poison to drive them away so I don't see them at all.

I'd like to point out another "downfall" to having mice in the house. They chew electrical wires...we had some in our attic and when we had our house rewired, the electrician pointed this out to us. Could have caused a fire.
Now, I would love to think that I could have caught them, and set them free in the wilderness but that is just not realistic. We called an exterminator, used decon and got rid of them. I agree Amy...Yuck, ick, poo!!!
