Let's all participate in Earth Hour tonight!
What is Earth Hour? It is tonight from 8-9 pm, when the whole world is encouraged to run off the power for an hour! I can't wait to see what kind of impact this will make.
In our home town, the city is measuring this difference of power usage during that hour to see what kind of difference a small town can make. The schools have all encouraged the children to ask their families to participate.
We are unplugging all non-necessary appliances, going without lights and heat (not that cold today) and just hanging out and playing games by candlelight!
I hope you all have plans to do the same!
You can go to this website to sign up:

I plan on doing it!
What a great idea! Will look forward to hearing what the impact is, too.

Count me in, I'm all for it. I heard that they want to do something to try to lower gasoline prices. They say if you don't buy from Exxon Mobil (they are the biggest) they will have to lower their prices, causing others to do it to compete.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Actually the gasolline boycott is an urban myth, debunked last week on MSN money.
Here is the link to that article.

Gasoline prices are based on the price of oil, not on competition between the different companies.

Oh, sorry about the double post - this is what I logged on for.
We had a great time doing the Earth Hour thing. The kids ran around the house at 7:30 performing our own energy audit. We found lots of things to unplug that may actually end up affecting our electric bill every month. They want to do this for one hour a week from now on.
We played Scrabble by candlelight during the hour of no power, and had a great time.
The really neat thing, though, was when we went outside and saw all the lights in the neighborhood off. There were only a couple of houses on the street that didn't participate. There were not porchlights on, and just some softly glowing windows where people had lit candles. Hooray for Welland Ontario!
Anyone else do something fun.

I didn't even realize this was going on until this morning. I think my kids would get a kick out of it too. May try it once a week like you all are.

We missed also. We weren't even home.
Will keep an eye out for the next one." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."
