Who would have known????
We pulled everything out of our storage unit yesterday ($30/month back in our checkbook, TYVM
). Since we don't have a garage (the garage was converted to a 4th bedroom years ago), we have to find a place to store it all. We started going through it and putting things in the attic and then going through the rest of the totes to decide what to keep and what to put in our yard sale in a couple of weeks.
We have 4 kids (2 b, 2 g) and my sil (dh's sister) has 2 little girls, ages 6 and almost 3. Needless to say a lot of clothes trade hands between us (kids' stuff and maternity). I decided to get rid of all the maternity (if we have more kids, it will be a while, and I can always buy more down the road when we have a better financial outlook) but wanted to see what my sil wanted kept as far as girls' clothes went before we threw everything in the garage sale pile. So dh calls her (and she told us what she wants) and they start talking about the TMM and how we are getting ready to start it this coming week (hence the yard sale).
Turns out, not only have sil and her dh been on the program, but they are down to nothing but the mortgage and one student loan (his), plus a $5,000 EF! He is a high school teacher and she is a SAHM, so they don't have a lot of discretionary income, but by doing the TMM, they are living fairly well.
And if that isn't enough, my fil is reading the book right now (the in-laws make $100K/yr, but they are looking at retirement and are trying to plan on living well even without the big salaries, although they don't have a ton of debt other than the house).
So the whole family is on board!

I have 5 plastic totes just full of clothes for the yard sale! We're selling things like a stroller, bassinet, a humidifier, an air purifier, a baby tub, a back massager with all sorts of attachments...the list goes on.
But dh said he wants to do it this Saturday instead of the 12th...AAAAHHHH!!!!!
What's even better is we got our budget done today (more or less, still tweaking a bit) and went and signed our taxes. Our federal was well over $10K (we owe almost $900 from last year, which will just come out of that). Our Arkansas was close to $1700 back, and Indiana was $185 back. We should have our AR refund in a week and the federal on the 11th.
We figured we have over $17,000 in debt other than the mortgage (that includes medical bills, student loans, and the car, among other things). By the time we use our refunds and the $2400 tax rebate in May, we will have everything but dh's student loan left, which we will snowball with the other $ we aren't paying out in debt, and we should be debt-free except for the mortgage within 12 months! We're also fully funding our starter EF and paying back my in-laws some $ we owe from the refunds.
Dh is also talking about taking a FPU course next month, since there is one starting next week at a church a few miles from us.
