ugh!!!!!!!!!
What a way to wake up. I woke up to hear Dh hollering. I ran down stairs to see what was up. There is a foot of water in the basement! The sump pump malfunctioned. Dh got the other pump in and got it out but the furnace sounds weird. Dh says the wires stayed dry but a little water got sucked into the blower. He thinks it is ok and has a heater blowing on it to dry it out. UGH!
I was supposed to wake up to breakfast in bed for my birthday not a flood!~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

Oh, NO! And on your Birthday? ugh.
We had that problem in rainy/snowmelty weather for awhile, then dh hooked up (don't ask me how, maybe your dh could figure this out) an old smoke detector on a wire to the sump pump, and it would PEEP loudly when it was overflowing/not working. All ya have to do to shut off the peeping and fix the situation, is take out the 9 volt battery temporarily.
We were saved this Spring once again by it, and I ran to a hardware and got another, and he installed it in the nick of time before overflow. Of course, though--it won't help if we're not here when it goes off, but.......
I've told dh he should get a patent on it.
BTW:
Hope your day gets MUCH better from here.

Thank you! Furnace tech said it will be a ok and even told dh what to do over the phone! How nice was that. Dh fixed what caused the sump pump problem. Guess who is installing another back up pump. Yep us. We also found a water alarm for $7 at the hardware store.

I'm really sorry to hear this!!!

Whatever you do, don't claim through you home insurance. We had sump pump problems and we're now paying through the nose for insurance (we're lucky we were able to get insured again at all!).
