    Default Bummer my Quakers died

Last summer I had to save my geriatric(10) duck a few times as she was egg bound repeatedly. All the farmers in the know told me it was because she was really old for a peking duck. She doesn't lay in the winter but I was hoping she would finally quit because I knew one time I wouldn't be there to help her.

The boys went out to feed them tonight and told me She was sick. She hemoraged. Dh was sleeping because he had to be to work in a few hours and I hated to but I had to wake him up to go put her out of her pain.

I loved that darn duck and so did the dog. I have pictures of that duck napping in the sun with her neck stretched out over the dogs side. She was also a tad confused as she chattered at and did her little mating dance repeatedly for the dog also.

I feel so bad that she must have been suffering for hours before we found her! Poor Quackers. Now Lucky my other duck will have only the goats and dog. Bummer! I know 10 is old for a duck but still.

Wow, 10 years!! She definitely lived with the right family. You had her for a good long life. That you cared for her when egg bound speaks volumes. It's a terrible painful thing for birds to be dealing with. Most people would have given up on her then. I am sure she thanks you for that caring. And I think by putting her out of her misery when hemorrhaging now, is the kindest thing you could have done.
