60th birthday ideas needed
Both of my parents are turning 60 in the next couple of months, and the kids would like to go together and get or do something special for them.
We've ruled out a party... too many other family events going on in this timeframe.
I'm racking my brain, but haven't come up with anything good so far. Any ideas?? TIA!

How about a vacation of some sort. You could go expensive cruise to a small weekend package the next city over.
His and hers new golf club sets. my father got a new set for his 60th from his brother. It was an awesome idea. It wouldn't have worked for my mom though.
Passes for something they like to do together....like 12 sets of movie pass bookelts with coupons for popcorn
or a basket with differnet kinds of things like
~a bottle of thier favorite whine
~a set of movie passes
~gift certificate for dinner to favorite place
~gas card
~zoo membership or passes(especially if they like to walk)
and so on
make sure the basket itself could serve some kind of use afterward like as a bread basket and make sure its pretty. Then the basket could be kept to remember everything.

I like the idea of a weekend getaway. Perhaps a bed and breakfast at a small resort or a cruise.
What do they enjoy? Are they active at 60 or plodding along at 60? What areas are they local too?
What types of things do they enjoy or did they enjoy doing before they started a family?
Are they Civil War buffs who would enjoy old battle fields. Are they train enthusiasts who would like a train ride or the performing arts type who would enjoy a play or symphony? Is Pittsburgh too far for them to travel? It is a beautiful place with lots to offer (museums, historic homes, great science center, etc.).

Don't know what type of price range you and your sibs can do....but a nice trip would be really cool! Or if money is tighter maybe a really good evening out, a nice dinner and tickets to the movies.

If they enjoy watching movies on cable you could get prepaid pay-per view certificates from their cable company. Gift cards for their favorite haunts, eating out, golf, movies...I really do like the idea of a weekend getaway, if your parents would enjoy something like that. If they like to travel you could do prepaid camping vouchers or in this day and age with prices being what they are prepaid gas cards.

My hubby turns 60 this fall. These are some good ideas for me to remember! He likes to try new places to eat out, so that's a treat for him (and for me, too!). He likes to read, so I get him books, usually used ones. He enjoys woodworking, so I get him patterns, but I stay away from tools, because I don't know enough about them to get what he really wants. However, I have given him gift cards to Home Depot, Lowes, etc, so that he can pick out his own. Hubby like to travel (as do I), so a weekend getaway at a city hotel or bed and breakfast, with perhaps some kind of professional game in the package would be a real treat for him.
Hope these ideas help, and I'm grateful for the ideas I read here.Spiritual:

Thanks for all the ideas... and keep 'em coming!

Dad is "kidnapping" mom for a weekend getaway on his own. So we could do a little trip, but might still try to find something different.
