After 2 months of unemployment.....
Joe has a "new" job. As some of you remember my husbands co. filed chapter 11 in January and his was one of the stores that closed in Feb. Well, he goes back to work on Wed. The reason I put new in quotations is because he is actually going back to the same company, only the store he is going to be the GM at this time is a higher grossing store and in no danger of being closed (it makes about 20-25,000 more a year then the store he was at) and best of all its only about 25 minutes from the house so we don't have to up and move anytime soon, unless we want to.
They called him a few weeks ago and said that the manager that was there decided to quit and nobody in the area wanted to change stores at this time and the manager that was the 2nd in command there (Joes old 2nd) said he didn't want the responsibilty of the position of GM and called Joe to see what it would take to bring him back. After about 2-3 weeks of conversations with his old District and Regional managers, as well as HR people and recruiters they said he could come back. We figured he would have to pay back the sevrence (it said he couldn't work for the co. for at least 3 months). Joe said that was fine, he would just be happy to have a job and insurance again. Besides, the day they closed we had refinanced the house and therefore didn't have a mortage payment until April 1st so most of the money is still in the bank and will be used to keep us afloat until the sevrence is paid back and his paychecks are normal which will be in July. Originally they were going to do it over the course of 1 year but they are going to do it instead over the course of 3-4 months instead so things will still be tight until this summer, but hey, we have insurance again and if those 3 months go by as quick as the 2 months he was off did, it will be over before we know it.
Needless to say Paige will miss skipping daycare and staying with daddy. She said yesterday that "daddy don't want to go to work, daddy want to stay with me"

So good to hear. Although the severance should have been waived for undue stress. But man, this still is wonderful news.

When the regional manager called him back about a week and a half ago, he said if they wanted him too that he would payback some of the sevrence right now so they wouldn't have to payroll deduct as much, but they didn't want him to have to do that.
His schedule will pretty much be like it was at the other store, but I doubt (especially with gas prices like they are) that I will be going there every Sunday morning for breakfast.....Maybe once a month but not anymore than that for now...lol

I'm showing my ignorance, but I don't understand having to give back the severance pay. They cut him out of a job, right? Then they asked him to come back? So what has the man done that he has to give back severance pay? Just doesn't seem right to me.

In the seperation papers that he had to sign to get the severance in the first place it stated that you couldn't apply for work with that company for a period of 3 months or you forfeit that pay.
On the bright side they kept him at the pay he was at before he left and at this store he will be eligiable for bonus checks every month where as at the last one, it was such a low volume store due to its location that he hardly ever got a bonus.
