My 1st year anniversary of being "Smoke Free"
It doesn't seem like it's been a year already...I miss it everyday..I miss being a 140lb person compared to a 188lb person I am now.. I miss not having you when I'm upset...I miss not enjoying life like I did a year ago when I had you everytime I was upset or just because..that's my story..On the other hand I'm glad I can breathe...I'm glad to not hear my children say that I'm killing them with second hand smoke..Of coarse all the money I'm saving..

I quit over a year ago as well (last January). I only miss it every once in a while. I'll get this intense craving after dinner sometimes. Or if it's a really pretty day and I'm sitting on my front porch swing with my DH. (He still smokes.)
Unfortunately I gained weight as well. It was only about 10 pounds but on a 5 ft tall body I think it looks more like 20!
Hang in there. Keep thinking of all the positive things about not smoking. It truly is life changing.

Congratualtions!!!
I just celebrated 4 years (January 4th) and still catch myself wanting one every now and then. I mainly want one when I am bored or stressing. But, the cravings seem to be getting fewer and far between as time passes.
You should be really proud of yourself.Last edited by Neeley; 04-07-2008 at 08:51 AM.

Think of it this way: You can always lose the weight, but if you have lung cancer, you can't really get rid of that! I quit smoking about 7 years ago, and there are still times I crave it. But, I know it was the single best thing I could do for my health and well being.
Congratulations on making it a whole year!

Good for you, Brenda! I know how hard it is also, I quit 30 years ago next month.
About 15 years ago, I was in the car with my boys and their friends(my usual seat, as taxicab for the neighborhood) and they were all fighting and arguing, and I thought "God I could use a smoke right now". Then I thought "where did THAT come from??"
But I'm happy to say that the times I've thought that have been few. The weight thing I am always working on (I gained 35 pounds in the 6 mos after I quit, alone!) But it helps if you can find something to do with your hands. I knit and quilt, but any hobby will do.

Big congrats from a reformed smoker. I quit about 15 years ago, and I still have moments where I crave them...
The weight gain seems inevitable, but it is so much healthier not to smoke! Good for you!

YAY for you!! Treat yourself to something special today!
I am going on 3 years smoke free and I do miss it as well
. I quit when I got pregnant with my DD so the pregnancy absorbed most of my weight gain - but I found it afterwards
!!
Congratulations!!
