    Default Metal roof?

Does anyone have a metal roof? We need to replace our roof this summer and dh really wants a metal one. From what I have read they are more expensive upfront, but you don't have the upkeep or replacement as frequently. He is planning on doing the roof himself if that makes any difference. I was just wondering if anyone had some input. thanks!

We don't have one, but y DH has always wanted one. From what I understand, they are supposed to last a lot longer and are more durable than regular roofs. There is a house down the street with a metal roof and it really does look nice.

We had estimates last summer for one. It was $11,000. The reguar roofing was $6800. They gave it a life time guarantee. When we do roof we will do the metal.

We have a metal roof. Our house is 30 years old and the roof is just fine. We added on and replaced the metal on the front old part to match the new metal for appearances, otherwise it did not require replacing. We did it ourselves, but my hubby was a carpenter. We also got a very good deal buying the metal from a local manufacturer of storage buildings and modular buildings rather than going through a Home Depot or something like that.

I love the sound of rain on my roof!

We have one and we love it. We replaced our shingles probably 6-7 yrs ago with shingles and did it with my BIL who is a carpenter, and found out when they started blowing off they were defective. So the company we bought them from gave us our money back. My husband then decided we would do the metal roof. It did cost us more , around 6-7000 dollars, but the shingles were around 3000 dollars , so we figured with that price we should just go for it with the metal. It is a dark gray-brown, and I love it. I will agree with the other lady , I love it when it rains.......

We have one, and I can't say how long the guarantee is for, but I just assume that we'd never have to replace it. We have done a lot of the work on building our house, but this was something we had done by professionals. It could be more do-it-yourself-friendly now.

We'll have to replace ours in the next couple of years and dh wants a metal one. I haven't seen any that I really liked the look of, but I have only seen maybe 4. I will have to do a little research.

We have one. We put it on last summer and its been great. I believe ours has a 50 year warranty or something like that. I will suggest though if you live in an area where it snows. Get the snow stoppers at the edges. We didn't and ended up with a 4 foot pile of snow in front of our house and almost as much on the other sides. We just had them put on last week, so were all ready for next winter..

I gotta ask...how loud is it when it rains or when a hailstorm comes through?

It's not loud. We have the insulation in the attic and the ceiling to baffle the sound. You can hear the rain, but it's not loud.

Hail can be loud. And, fyi, you can still file an insurance claim for hail damage to a metal roof.
