Just need to rant for a minute....
Last Friday I realized that we had a DVD overdue at the library, so I put DDs in the car even though it was pouring rain and drove to the library. I made a point of handing the DVD to the librarian, who thanked me and checked out the CD that I had on hold. She put the DVD on the counter. I figured she would check it in. I was wrong!!! I don't know what happened to it but it was still showing as overdue this morning. Icalled the library told them the problem and they looked for the DVD and couldn't find it. Her advice to me...check around home and see if you really brought it in. I was soooo steamed. I know I brought it in. And they are still charging me late fees!!!! I am going over later to look for it myself. I just hate the attitute that if we can't find it you didn't bring it in.

Ohhhhh, that would make me FURIOUS
Do you know what librarian you went to, maybe go in and jog her memory??? Do they happen to have video.....you would know the time you took it in and check back on the video and see it on the counter for your proof. I bet it is sitting on some cart waiting to get put up ~ the librarian saw it sitting there and didn't check and just stuck it wherever they put it next to get back to the shelves. I'm wishing you luck in finding it.

This happened to me once at a rental place. Lo and behold they found it behind the drop bin! I was not happy as they basically accused me of lying and assumed they could NOT have been wrong. I made them waive ALL late fees of course. I hope you have good luck with this.

I went in and looked in the racks and it isn't there. They were nice and did note on my account that the DVD is misplaced somewhere in the library, but you know that if they don't find it, I will have to pay for it.

This happened to me at our local library many years ago with a book. They said I had the book and wanted me to pay for it. I pulled it off their shelf and handed it to them. Their comment? "Oh, I guess we forgot to check it in." Morons!

A similar thing happened to me (but with a book). Fortunately, the library staff were much more helpful. They told me not too worry and that they would find it and reverse any late fees.
I'm not sure if this would help, but what if you look for it in the stacks yourself? In my case, it was transferred to the home library branch without being checked in.

i've had that happen to me before.
if i were you, i'd talk to the library manager and tell him/her who it was you handed the dvd to and who checked you out (same person in this case) and let him/her know that it was that day you checked out the 'new' dvd that you had returned it... and would like that the dvd be checked in for that day & you'll pay late fees UP TO that point, but not afterwards.

I had something similar happen at our library (who are understaffed, but still, c'mon!).
I had brought a DVD in ON TIME. Took it all the way up to the 4th floor (where the media section is). It was the DAY it was due...but it was there on time.
I looked online like 3 days later and it said it was overdue! I know they're understaffed so waited a bit more...still marked overdue.
After 6 days I e-mailed the department that handles that... Got an e-mail back that says that since they're understaffed to allow at least 3 days from the time you turned something in (I specified when I turned it in).
Uh, isn't 6 more than 3?? Oh, and that they'd found it.
THANK YOU!!!! GRRRRR...Kace - married to Dh 12 years

How frustrating is that!?!?! I hope they find it! I can't believe that you are going to be responsible for it even after it was in THEIR possession!

Maybe the next person to check out books took it with their stuff accidentally. Hopefully that is the case and it will show up when they return their items. I can only inamgine your frustration. Good luck to you.

I had this happen at our library with a book once. Before they got it checked back in under my name, someone came along and checked it out. So it showed up as late on my account when someone else actually had the book! Ask if they can run a check through their system and see if that maybe happened with the dvd.
Luckily for me I live in a very rural area where everyone knows everyone. Our librarian goes through all the late notices and if I have one, she throws it away LOL. She says she knows I'm busy and that if I check out books they ALWAYS come back when I'm finished with them so she doesn't worry about it. Our library also does Fine Free Friday.S
