Buying locking gas caps for your car
I put $20 in gas in my car yesterday at 3.37 a gallon. This would have been enough gas to get my kid to and from school this week and next week. I'm broke. I have everything we need to get us through to my next payday.
Some one stole gas out of my car last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't replace it.At first I thought the gas needle must be stuck as I took my daughter to school. Nope, completely ran out of gas pulling into my driveway.
Luckily my dad is running me out some gas plus money to get more, my parents rule.
My dad is a tow truck driver and he told me he has seen numerous people calling about gas being stoled out of cars daily. My dad is buying me a locking gas cap. I never bought a locking gas cap before because I could use the money for other things.
I saw gas here was at 3.54 this morning. I really wonder if we'll start to see more people stealing gas out of desperation because they can't afford it and need to get to work or something.

Probably a good idea with gas prices rising every day.

Dh bought one a few months back. Someone was stealing gas out of the vehicles at work. The guys parks their vehicles at 10-12 pm and aren't back with the semis until late afternoon so it gave the thieves lots of time.
I should get myself one also.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I'm sorry someone did this to you
We farm and are rural, most of us have large gas tanks (both diesel and unleaded) on our properties due to the farm equipment and the distance to town. With the price of unleaded and the cost of diesel (now over the $4.11 mark) there have been a rash of problems with attempted theft from gas on the properties from these tanks (not us as of yet) but because of these problems we now keep the fuse out of the fuse box so incase there happens to be nobody around, they may try but they won't get anything. It's a shame people have to think like this (locking up your gas) it costs a huge amount at one time to fill these tanks and we need to prevent any theft of it. If we didn't live so far from town I would put a basket on my bike and ride that around when I could, just too far away

there was a news report on the other day about people drilling through gas tanks on the bottom of cars...bypassing the locked gas caps to get to the gas. Leaving car owners not only without gas, but having to replace their gas tanks

Re: drilling holes. Sometimes I wish the media wouldn't publicize every single thing, it just gives crooks more ideas.
We have a locking gas cap. In the past 2 weeks 3 of Momma's neighbors have had gas stolen, now we have to worry about people drilling holes in the gas tank!

I would think drilling into a gas tank, might cause explosion..brave thiefs. Gas was 3.49 last night ..I wonder what it is today?!

I can't believe someone would drill the tank... that seems like a lot of trouble for a few gallons of gas. Could you imagine having to replace your gas tank, its unthinkable what people are willing to do to others. I joke about gas being liquid gold, but its not to far from the truth! I've heard people say that locks only keep the honest ones from stealing. DH & I have talked about locking caps from time to time. Looks like now would be a good time to check into it.

Heather I was just going to post the same thing.
Junk and aluminum , short steel and such is very high right now. People in the city are waking up to find someone went under their cars and cut out the cadillac converters on their cars.
they are selling to the junk dealers for mega bucks.
we will be taking a lot of scrap into the junk yards tomorrow. We should make a couple hundred or more .

I had one on a car I had over 10 years ago, because I had an issue with someone taking my gas when I was at work. With the cost of gas now, it might be wise to invest in another one.
