Getting nails in old age!
Well ladies, I have to tell you that I am not a "high maintenance" woman by any means. I have always wanted to get a pedicure and manicure but never have. Now, as I am approaching the 50 mark, I get a gift certificate for a pedicure as a gift....so I have decided to splurge and get some nails put on as well. I intend to tell them to keep them short but at least I will have a bit of nail tip! LOL. I am so excited that it's almost silly.
Any hints to keep them looking nice and to help get used to them? Any basic care you give them at home during the week ( other than getting them filled in as needed of course)
But mostly...am I nuts to do this in my mid-life years! LOL
Soon to be flashing pink pretty nails....at least for a day or so I hope!

Oh you will love your pedicure....I have only had one but think I am ready for another since flip flop season is quickly approaching here. I have had nails on and off and I DO love them when I have them. I am a nail biter and my hands look so pretty when they are on. You will adapt very quickly and if you keep them on get them longer than you think right now. Enjoy!!

Nothing silly about pretty pink nails! I have some myself. I had to have surgery on my right hand back in December. I've never had pretty nails of my own, so as spring approached I decided to keep my toenails and fingernails looking pretty. A small gift to myself. Enjoy!!

Only advice I have is wear gloves if happen to
hand wash your dishes. Enjoy!" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. If you get them short, you won't have a hard time adjusting to them. I've had some dragon-lady nails in my day
not recomended for the faint of heart.
I also got mine done as "Squoval" and I found that they didn't break on me... unlike the traditional shape. To see what squoval look like, click here
Have a blast when you get them done! It is so relaxing and you will instantly feel 'glam' whenever you see your nails... even if you just shoved your hand up a turkey's backside (long story
)
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

My gosh, this was just the best. I got a pedicure and "pink and white" nails put on. I guess they also call it a french nail? No colored polish but a nice shiny look. Very professional looking and I wont have to worry about chipped polish. And heavens, why did no one ever tell me a pedicure felt so heavenly. I have really ugly feet but they almost look presentable with now. Love it! Am going to look at the budget to see how I can fit this in on a regular basis. Hummmmmmm...thanks for the encouragement ladies, I was feeling pretty silly and almost cancelled.

I've had the "fakes" a couple of times - other than having to go back and pay to get them filled (some women go every week, I went every two or three weeks) I thought they were awesome. The polish doesn't chip, they don't crack or break (unless you're really trying - like slamming them in a door or something) and I always felt like I look professional and presentable whenever I walked out the door.
The biggest reason I don't have them now is because of my son. It is a little harder to do small snaps, buttons, car seat buckles, etc. AND finding time to get them "filled" - I hate to give up evenings or weekend with DS since I work all week, and no place is open past 8pm when he goes to sleep.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06) and Oliver Andrew (5/25/12)

I used to have salon nails. I loved the way they looked. Just reading this thread is making me want to get them again.
