Wink Happy Earth Day!! (What are you doing?)

Wow is it ever beautiful out.....and its also Earth Day.

Today, I am playing hooky from work - well its not an entire fib that I am not well...something I ate last night has gotten my tummy upset enough for me to fear leaving the house

So....while at home, I have gotten laundry done, dishes done and wrapped my bro's bday gift ready for tonight's celebatory dinner. I am lazing around the house, resting and watching tv - its kind of fun. I need to soak my feet (to clean them and ward off a potential ingrown toe nail again - same toe, other side now ) plan my budget as this is payweek and then probably going to try to PURGE some boxes.

What are you doing today? What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day?

I started out having to go out this morning so figured I might as well go to local places who are giving out earth friendly freebies today, Nice reusable bag at the grocery store and a light bulb at the hardware store, made my trip to the bank worthwhile, but hey! why no "green" give aways at the bank? doh!

We had a fair at work They had information about bus lines and recycling centers. They gave away a fluorescent bulb to everyone. And we were able to exchange plastic bags for a couple of reusable shopping bags.

~Cleaning and organizing. I have 4 grocery bags of stuff to take to Goodwill.
~I pulled out some of my hubby's old cargo shorts and started cutting them up to recycle into a quilt.
~I also pulled out the last 4 grocery bags that I've had cut out for a year and finally sewed them up today.
~I'm making french toast tonight for dinner to use up all the ends of homeade bread I've been saving in the freezer.
And some things that weren't exactly Earth friendly or Earth Day related, but necessary:
~4 loads of laundry done(one with hot water) and dried in my electric dryer. We can line dry as soon as allergy season is over.
    ~entered coke codes
~went back on my diet for a 2 week stretch. I knew all those french horns and spoons of tub frosting were gonna catch up with me....
    ~unloaded/loaded and ran dishwasher
    Still to do:
    ~make dinner
    ~fold 2 loads of laundry
    ~unload/load dishwasher
    ~wash out baggies and bottles
    ~go to the in-laws tonight

It is gorgeous out and plan to go for a walk in the park
to enjoy it. Suppose to stay this way all week. Yay!
I know it's Earth Day but not doing much.

Not much other than work - I did ride my motorcycle to work so I am "green" in that way.

It was so dang nice out today. I went to the Y and took a long walk outside.

    Then I had a dr's appt

I did go to the store and forgot my re-usable bags in the van so I bought more.

My daughter said they served their meals on styrofoam trays today at school...What the heck??? that is so bad for the enviornment. She was not happy about that at all.

The children and I made a personal challenge to use as little electricity as possible for today. And, it was a challenge since we had clouds and intermittent rain all day that really cut into our natural light. We kept the electronics all off until 6pm, used lights only when we had to look for something in a dark corner and so forth.
Otherwise we took a 2 hour walk to the grocery store to pick up some necessities. It took two hours because we went the round-about way on the greenway and enjoyed observing the stream and birds. The girls painted their pictures of the Earth (what they decided they needed to do) while I set up the sewing machine so my daughter could finish her shirt. We read some books together, picked up the kitchen and played outside when it wasn't raining. I made a double batch of dinner tonight so we can have it again in a couple of weeks.

Tonight I plan on watching 'Deadliest Catch' on TV and reading.

Our school celebrated Earth Day by recycling some products into useable items. The kids had fun making bird feeders out of milk jugs, pet rocks, dirt pudding, and pencil holders from cans.

At home, we are not using any paper towels....I stopped buying them and am now just using towels.

On a side note, I had to take DS#3 to the doctor today. He is running fever. He also has a sore throat, headache, stomach ache and is weak and nauseous. They did a strep test, but it was negative. The doctor thinks he may just have a viral infection. If it continues, he wants him back on Thursday for more test. He missed school yesterday with the same symptoms. I sure hope he starts feeling better because all he does is lay around the house which is not like him.

Was stuck at the doctors office most of the day. Was able to get a walk in afterwards. It was so nice outside!
