Tent Caterpillars
These dumb things are all over our driveway, house, and climbing our poor innocent trees. I can't stand these little buggers! Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced an infestation of them. I remember growing up (in Pennsylvania) and seeing entire forests filled with these tents - they ate all the leaves making it look like winter. I'm worried they followed me to Alabama!
If anyone has any tips on how to safely get rid of them (besides stepping on them all...I can only do so much, lol), I'd appreciate hearing about them!

I am not sure how to get rid of them, but I can sympathize.
When I was 12 our area was infested. They were everywhere. I never wanted to see another one again after that.
Now my folks, spray for them every year and remove any nest in the winter.Julie

Haven't seen any here yet...We had it really bad 2 years ago and I think they go in cycles. I'm pretty sure you just have to suffer through, too many to just wipe out.
I feel your pain, they are just so gross.

LOL, no one in this area can understand why I dread them so much. I was like "you just don't get it! When I was a kid..." I'm only 28, but I sound like I'm a grandma telling the youngins how hard I had it as a child.
Most people around here think they are cute little innocent caterpillars that are fun to collect and set on branches to watch them nibble on leaves.
But seriously, spraying might be a good thing. I may hop on over to Lowes to ask about it. Luckily, they're easy to squish. They're not thick-skinned like roaches. :surprise:Michele

You can spray them with a soapy mixture, that's what my dad always did.

I love the idea of soap, esp since I have a toddler at home and we're TTC. Thanks for the tip and link!
