    Default Reality Is Setting In....AAAGGGHHH!!!

A little background info - I am a 5'9,small-boned person who has been able to eat anything without worrying too much about weight gain. The medical charts say that for someone that is my structure, I should weigh 139#....well, I'm most comfortable at 123# Anyway, to the point. This month we had 3 birthdays and a graduation dinner & in just 1 week I went from 126 to 133! I was in total shock & vowed to lose it. I limited my portions, drank milk w/ my meals & kept up my routine of drinking about 10 glasses of water a day- I even cheated a little & nibbled on some snacks - not too much -just enough that I didn't feel deprived lol. So I have been "watching it" for 9 days now & weighed in this morning at 125# *sigh*. Well, its the sledgehammer of reality - even though I don't look 43, my body's metabolism is saying differently & I don't like it....raspberries!

Oh gosh... well if it makes ya feel any better, I would LOVE to be your height and weight. :-)

I'm five feet five and weigh more than you. I struggle to stay under 150 and before I had my thyroid out and got put on meds, I was struggling to stay out of the 170's !

I used to have tremendous energy and willpower, always staying in the 120's which I was fine with, till I hit the late thirties. ACK!!!! Age HAPPENS huh? Blink of an eye and it seems like a couple decades zipped by fast. But my pants won't zip up so fast anymore! LOL

Did you excercise at all or just eat less/better? I ask b/c I know at this point, it would take some major walking each day for me and I just don't look foward to it like I used to.

My body is very much like yours......ppl get mad at me when I tell them I am frustrated with my weight. I am 5'8", mediumish boned and my body can easily stay at 128 with very little work. However, I have creeped up to about 137 *yikes*.....anyway, I spent a few weeks watching what I eat quite closely and spending quite a lot of time at the gym and walking, and crunches, etc... anyway, I stepped on the scale this morning, and it said 132...YEA!!! I have a few more pounds I want to kick out the door, but so far, so good!

It's heck getting old! I could only dream about being 5'9" and 125 pounds! I'm actually on the "curvier" side (yeah, yeah...that sounds good!), and I usually maintain my "curvier" weight pretty well. Lately I've also found myself creeping up a couple of pounds and I've been able to get into walking about 1.5 miles each day. Unfortunately, I've come to realize that as I get older, the weight may come on pretty fast, but it's certainly in no hurry to go away. *Sigh* Oh well, guess it's time to keep a closer eye on the chocolate intake.

    I envy your metabolism!!

I am 26 years old .. and after giving birth and back to before prego weight directly after birth of 360lb @ 5ft9... i have been heavy all my life .. i can eat as much or as little as i want and stay basically the same. Yes, even eat like a bird and my weight doesn't go down.. grrr.

But as history i weighed 270 from the time i was in 5th grade til i was 19.. after having mono at 19 and then moving to NC and becoming stressed because of a nasty relationship at 20 the scale went up to 390.. and i had been loosing weight til a bit before i found out i was pregnant.

It's scary to think i will get older and my metabolism slow down more.. cause if it does i will be in serious trouble!!

Don't be so down on yourself. It is HIGHLY unlikely that you gained 7 actual pounds of body fat in a week. Seven pounds is equal to eating over 24,000 calories ON TOP of what your body needs to live (which is around 1500-2000 for normal active people). Which, even taking the low end of that (1500 calories BMR) you would have had to have consumed 35,000 calories in a week. HIGHLY unlikely.

It's more likely that you consumed quite a bit more sodium than usual and were retaining water. Could you also be close to TOM? That also causes a little water weight gain. You could have had food still in your digestive tract that hadn't been eliminated yet. It is also important to weigh in the exact same environment...same time, same clothes, same scale, etc.

    What Yankeemom said.

Sounds like water-weight. And as you get older TOM can make you retain even more water than you used to. I was always 5 pounds over the week before (done now--nyah!)

That said---you may still find that your metabolism IS slowing down after 40.

OK, guys. I am short and "curvy", and yes, it gets harder to keep the weight off as you age. The body seems to think a famine is occuring and is stocking up against it. LOL!

But..... I have discovered something in our favor. Hot flashes can be your friend. Think about it: It takes fuel to stoke that furnace! Every hot flash burns calories. Isn't it wonderful..........

I do enjoy the 'burn', forHISglory, but I wish I didn't end up looking like a drowned rat! LOL! I guess when I think about it, I DO look as though I just went for a run. Burn, baby, burn!!

For a little over a year now I have been dieting and exercising to loose the pounds. It has been a slow process but the weight is coming off and the cholesterol level is dropping. I noticed when I was sick with a cold and not out walking that I gained weight. Very frustrating!! Have to loose 9 more pounds and can't wait to have it off!! Really is frustrating having your metabolism slowing down when you hit 40.

I basically just ate less/better & I drank alot of water. Exercise - I'm too lazy lol, but if you count running after 10 kids &2 dogs & other housework stuff, I guess that would be exercise

I packed away ALOT of food *sigh*

I hear ya! My metabolism seems to be getting slower and slower as they years go by...I just turned 42! It's funny but even though I weigh the same about as I did a few years ago....my body is fatter now...I don't get it?! It's so hard to lose weight now! Sure takes a lot more effort than it did, even a couple of years ago. It's the dreaded cellulite that's the biggest problem. It really bugs me when someone weighs a lot more than me and they look smaller because they are firmer. It's depressing !
