Default Cosmetics-How long do you use before pitching it!

    HI All,

I've heard that certain comsmetics should be thrown away after a period of time. For example if I remember correctly Mascara should be recplaced every 3 months and I think foundation should be changed every year. Do you follow such rules or do you keep using your makeup until it runs out.

Lipstick and eye shadow are products that I use until it's all gone. I do buy a new foundation every year and i make my mascara last 6 months buy then it's usually so thick and clumpy it's useless. Lipgloss I will also use until it's all gone which usually happens in 6 months.

I use mine till it's gone.....mascara, oh when it gets thick and clumpy, just add a dab of hair gel to the container, it will stretch it till it;s gone. (I know, I know, it will also be nice and contaminated too! )

Actually, I thought about this a few more minutes, came back to edit with this info: some of my make up I have gotten for free or gotten paid to take it out of walgreens, that I have thrown it out before it;s gone, just cause I have had so much new free stuff and fun colours to replace it.

I know there are general rules and the only one I really follow is the mascara rule. 3 mo. and it's gone. I don't buy expensive mascara anyway. Liquid foundations, etc. they say it's 6-12 mo. but unless it's smelling different I will use it until it's gone. I've never had an issue.

Powders should be good until they are gone unless you've had some sort of skin/eye issue.

I do buy higher end eye shadows, blush, etc. and I'm going to get my use out of them, LOL.

Lipsticks and lip gloss will also smell & feel different if it's time to pitch them.

same with lipstick i have mulitcolorpack, mix til gone. Mascara I use until clumpy or gone. eyeliner use til gone, sharpen it to end. LOL

I use up everything till it's gone.
Never had any problems with anything thank goodness.

I have a powder blush that I have had for YEARS and YEARS - don't use it much.

Most cosmetics I use until they are all gone or if I no longer use them I will trash them. Try to go through my makeup at once or twice a year. My mascara as long as it doesn't get thick and clumpy, up to a year.

I use till gone. When foundation is just a ring around the edge of compact - I take a knife and flake it out into a covered container. I do this will each one or colors that aren't quite right. (It's makes a whole new color when mixed together) It's like loose powder. I haven't bought makeup in a few years, by doing this. No problems

I use things till gone or smell funny--whatever.

I've used makeup for about 40 years and you never heard all this stuff till recently.

I think it's a scam/con job/scare tactic to get you to buy more of their stuff, and more often. Phooey!

My mom and 3 sisters and I used to have a 'makeup drawer' that had everybody's makeup in it, and we just put on our makeup out of that drawer--yes-- all of us using each other's stuff! We never died, got eye infections, or skin problems.

Haven't worn makeup in years. Years ago never would have left the house without it. Now, well to me it just seems to be a pain to use. LOL Will probably pick up some mascara and lipstick since what I have is really old. : )

I am horrified to let you guys know I've been using the same blush since HIGH SCHOOL. Like 1985.

But in my defense, it's been discontinued and I can't find another color that actually works with my skin tone.

One of these days it will be gone and I'll be brokenhearted.
