He should still get $400.00

This is true, my friend will have his portion of his check garnished for back child support.

I hope everyone will pay off credit card debt or put in savings. They want you to spend it on foolish things and I resent that attitude because it implies I have no brain! And remember, it is not "free" money. It needs to be reported on 2008 tax returns and besides it goes on the national debt plus interest which is many people "golden" years.

But then I probably didn't have to say any of that with you guys. Call it my "duh" moment.

We owe no taxes or child support. I keep checking the bank to see if it's there lol. I want to schedule to get the vehicles in to be fixed, but I'm not doing it until the money's in the bank

ETA: It's not "income" that has to be reported as such on next year's taxes. They are doing away with the lowest tax bracket for 2008 and giving it to taxpayers early rather than making them wait until they file 2008's taxes. It's an advance on $$ you would have seen in your 2008 taxes.

In April 2009 or thereabouts, when you file your taxes for 2008, the IRS will run the calculation for the stimulus rebate again. If the results show that you would have received more (due to an additional child, for instance), you will be sent the difference (or owe less on your final tax bill). If your results show that you would have received a smaller rebate, then you get to keep the difference.
To summarize, the rebate that will be sent out in May 2008 is a credit to the taxes you’ll owe on 2008 income, but it is a new credit, so you don’t have to “pay it back.”

child support is an issue????? with the stimulus check?? i hadnt heard that

my husband has back child support but we still get our taxes every year since we filled bankruptcy and the back child support is paid thrugh there and we pay monthly..no more current child support..so i guess we should still get our less the 245 in back taxes
