These emails have got to stop!
So I turned the big 5-0 last September. Ever since then I am getting emails that are truly annoying. Someone keeps telling me how I can lose weight if I use their colon cleansing product. Ick. Someone else thinks I have a bad case of toenail fungus. Incontinence a problem? I get emails about that. Long term care insurance? Get stuff on that too.
How did these places know I turned 50? And what makes them think I am interested in their products? I am NOT old!!
And we do have spam blocker on the compter. But this junk keeps getting through.
I think I'll go back to reading my book now.On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.
On 01-13-89 I gave birth to the love of my life.

I hear ya! Today "they" wanted to give me botox & said I may qualify for a free wheelchair. For the record, I don't have the parts to qualify for a large ...either.

That happens to me alot. You probably got on some kind of "affiliates" mailing list when someone either sent you an ecard or you entered some contest or freebie giving your date of birth along with your email.
What I do is take some time just to get off the 'lists'. I open several emails after scanning my emails for virus'. Then I go to the bottom of those emails and click on the information indicating that I can "opt out' of their mailing lists. Usually you will find that the offensive emails are coming from the same link affiliated through some other company. You might keep getting the emails for another 10 days or so but after that they should quickly deminish. Stay agressive with 'opting out' and soon your email will be back to normal.

Hope that helps.

I always figured if I clicked & opted out it would just let them now I had an active mailbox & would keep getting them & more. Glad it worked for you Carolyn.

Opting out and Unsubscribing really does work. The companies that have your email address are 'required' to delete your email when you do this. If they don't, they can get into trouble for spaming you. There's some kind of law about it but I can't remember what it is right now.
Some of those emails that re just adds do not have any way to opt out of them and they were probably sent by a company that you registered with for a free sample and opted to receive their emails. Whenever you fill out a request for a sample product, make sure your click on any box (usually towards the bottom of the form) to NOT receive further information from that company or it's affiliates.
All of those emails that you ladies are getting are not really spam by law, those companies acquired your email legally through a huge network of email sharing. If you don't start opting out and unsubscribing from some of those companies soon, you're going to end up with about 20 to 50 emails "per day" once all of those affiliate companies find your email is a good hit.
Takes time but oh so worth it!

I use the block feature for the Outlook Express mail box...the others I just click delete all & then go through & unclick the ones I want. It's a pain, but I did try to opt out when I first got my puter and it didn't seem to stop them from coming.

I have a Yahoo address I always use for freebies and things I sign up for. It baffles me how these places got my "real" email address.

This reminds me of the day after Gripey turned 50 he got a thing for AARP in the mail. He was certain I had pulled a joke on him.....
I have no idea why he would think such a thing....(but really I didn't).
