Long Distance Move and New House
I have decided that I am sick of debt, and have set short term and long term goals for myself.
As the story is now, I am about $12,000 in debt of credit cards and student loans, and also own a house. However, me and the bf recently broke up, and we own the house together. What I will probably be doing, is giving him the house (he will refinance in his name, pay me a small amount to buy my half, and I will sign deed over). I then plan to live with my mother for a little while, which should greatly reduce my expenses (I am living paycheck to paycheck now as it is).
With those reduced expenses I should really be able to tackle my debt in a quick and timely manner. After ALL of my debt is paid off, I then will be save, save, saving. I am saving for a long distance move out of state, probably (but not definitely) to Florida (I currently reside in Wisconsin). Although I will rent short term in Florida if I have to, it will be difficult to find a place to rent with my small "zoo" of animals (small dog, 2 cats, bird, hedgehog, plethora of snakes and other reptiles).
So, ultimately, I would like to save enough to put a good sized downpayment onto a modest and affordable house in Florida. And, hopefully, to find a good paying job when the time comes.
I have been setting and am in the process of tweaking a budget, as well as starting up the envelope cash paying system.
I can do this! I will accomplish my goals! I will be debt free!!!

hello and welcome heather. sound like good goals. What kind of work do you do and what part of florida do you want to end up in? I live in Florida on the space coast. That is near the beach, Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach area. I actually live a little south of Cocoa Beach though.
Housing at the moment is taking a nose dive hopefully It will rebound sooner than later. I am sure that the pay would be lower here too. Not positive though.Married 22 years to Mark

Hi. I went to school for zoology and conservation, but have not found work in that field in this area. I am contemplating going back to school eventually, possibly for accounting, maybe lab science, I don't know. Ha. Right now I work as a dental technician working on dental prosthetics, I don't even make $10/hour, and right now rarely get 40 hours/week, so there's not much lower I can get.
I'm not sure where exactly I want to move to in Florida, but Tampa, Orlando, Gainsville, and Daytona coastal area are at the top of the list. I don't want to live much further south than Tampa, and I don't want to live in the panhandle. It will probably depend on what kind of work and where I can find work, etc... I have some friends that live in Florida that I know from a shared interest in reptiles. I also have some relatives there but I don't know them very well.

Live in Florida also. Not to discourage you but have a job BEFORE you come here. Don't take a chance on not finding one for months. Jobs are hard to come by and the pay sucks. I'm more on the Tampa side but a little further south.
Housing is fairly cheap right now compared to what it was and foreclosures are a dime a dozen. Takes awhile for it to go thru tho due to backups.
Otherwise, wishing you luck and success.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

Is there any actual equity in the house?
Get out of your other debt before buying a new house, definitely! So, ultimately, I would like to save enough to put a good sized downpayment onto a modest and affordable house in Florida. And, hopefully, to find a good paying job when the time comes.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
