    Default Getting My Principal Certificate

So, I earned my Master of Education in 1998. Dh and I got married, and I decided to take a short break from school. After two years, I went back to take the necessary classes for my principal certification, but partway through, I became pregnant w/dd. At that point, I had taken enough classes for my Supervisor's certifcate, but still had a few to go before Principal certification. Now, with a baby, I took another break, which turned into a 5-year educational hiatus! Last year, I decided to go back and get the certification and maybe a doctorate, but I found myself pregnant w/ds2. So, I thought I'd at least go for the certification, if not the doctorate.

Well, it turns out the requirements have changed and I'd have to get an entire second masters in order to get the Principal certfication. With three kids and working full-time, that's just not feasible. It would be about $30,000 and 2-3 years of classes. Then, I was speaking to a colleague of mine the other day who told me about this new program, called NJExcel. www.njexcel.org It's an intensive program, but only for one year and I can get the certification. My principal has said I can intern with her and I'm almost done with the paperwork to apply. If you visit the website. I fit into the model 2 program.

I'm really excited. First of all, I love going to school. Secondly, I'm ready to advance in my career. I'm going to wait until January to begin, because I think Matty is too little right now. But, still...very exciting!

Amy, I'm so happy to read this and how wonderful for the opportunity to intern. I'm shooting for fall to return.

Amy, I'm so happy for you!! I know it is challenging with children, but funny how having them makes us reach for our goals even harder!! Good luck!!

My hat is certainly off to you. There is no way I could hold down a full-time job, go to school, and have three small children. I really do admire anyone who can do this.

Best of luck Amy. I'm excited for you. Not many of us get to do exactly what we want and receive a salary doing it.

    Way to go!!
