my little dream
This is my dream which i have dreamed for years and never see happening, but still i can dream right *G* My hunny is right on page with me if we could ever get it to work.
My dreamiest dream would be to move to the mountains, not any mountains i would prefer to move to northern WV in a part where they have free natural gas on certain properties. As well they do not have property tax, but they do piggy back everything else so i would want to be close to the state line. That would also put me with in 1-3 hours of my family in MD ( close enough to visit occationally, but not close enough to constantly be bugged to death).
I would like to have 5-10 acres atleast of property i wouldn't mind if some of its craggly rocky as long as there is enough that is flat for a house, barn and a huge garden and herb garden. And of course some nice woodsey area where Joe could hunt at free will. And for our home to have solar pannels as well as a natural gas electric generator for at night so if we were hooked to the grid the extra energy we made we would get paid for.
I would like to have animals of all sorts. A cow or 2 with either a bull or neighbor with a bull or get Sperm Shipped in for them to have calves. Sell one off and keep the other to eat later on that year. A sow and boar to breed pigs, keeping one or two to fill out and selling off the rest. Have Free Range Different Types of Chickens( maybe from geese or ducks for variations of eggs) for eggs and chicken meat, if we have more then we can eat then sell off the extras. Also have goats for milk and to sell the kids. Maybe have meat rabbits and eat the meat and sell the pelts.. sell show rabbits to local FFA & 4H kids.. and sell easter bunnies ( even though its against my own judgement if we get that tight that it will help then i will ). If i could find a few angora rabbits i would breed them since they are a meat and fur rabbit so they would be dule purpose, but they are harder to take care of. Mostly selling off the extras to pay for most of their food hopefully.
Grow a garden for summer eating as well as canning and some freezing. Have a nicely stalked herb garden to help season everything. I also would like to make the garden a little bigger then need be so that we could sell off some produce.
Make homemade goat milk and or cows milk soaps which i already do now, maybe work into lotions and creams and the like, blow eggs to sell at Easter, Tan hides of rabbit, deer, and other hides, make leather items as Joe has already started to do, make butter as well , but no cheese to many laws now about that.
It would be my ultimate dream would be to live close enough to a major town ( hour or so ) where people would come to a store where items could be sold, but mostly that it would be a Bulk food store. Where farmers and other people can come and get food at good prices and good quality that they can't grow on their land. Plus if i own the store then i could have a small room in the back for smaller children while the older ones could stay at home not far away so if they needed me they could come get me.
So then i could home school my children and have their friends over to play and know that they were safe.
Mostly to be almost self suficient.

I hope that it does someday.
Joe's dream is to have a shop with in 5 years for him to sell his leather at. I don't know about that one seems as far fetched as mine right now

qtkitty,
Your "little dream" as you titled it...sounds like a wonderful dream and you should not give yourself any other option than to fulfill it 100%!
Within the last year I accomplished a big dream! I moved from south Texas to the mountains of Colorado by myself. I knew nobody when I moved here. I drove out of Tx at 3am in the morning w/ my four kitties. (they did not like the 15 hr drive
).
It took a lot of courage. I never imagined before that I would/could do something like this. It was not easy and took a lot of planning. I'm very close to my family. Nonetheless, I felt this was something I had to do for myself. It's hard to explain but I know this is where I am meant to be in my life.
I think courage is such a great thing because it is not something you can buy or something given to you...it comes from within you!
It's been less than a year since I moved here...I have made great friends and have never looked back! I feel blessed every day! I think each time I accomplish a goal/dream, it makes the next one seem not as scary and actually seems more like an adventure.
Best of luck to you...I can tell you are passionate about your dream! Please keep us posted!

But always remember that dreams CAN become a reality if you set your hearts, mind and money to it. I think your dream is wonderful

qtkitty, one of my husband's co-workers is getting ready to retire, and he purchased some land in WV with the free natural gas. I had never heard of this before. I was telling my husband that this sounds like a wonderful way to retire, since my dream is also to move to the country.
Maybe we'll be neighbors!
