Preparing for rising food and oil prices
Though the price of oil has already tripled since 2003, international banker Goldman Sach recently predicted the oil price (currently $127 a barrel) will rise to between $150 and $211 a barrel by October this year!
Because of our heavy dependence on cheap oil, the consequences of increasing oil prices are spiraling costs of transport, fertilizer, goods, and especially food.
For example we use 10 calories of oil to produce 1 calorie of food! Take rice - it's gone up by 121% in the past 6 months.
Times are going to get a lot tougher!
What to do?
Join your local relocalization network node or start one in your area (there's already 180 around the world).
These aim to get people ready... growing their own food,
sharing resources, learning how to live comfortably with less energy and water, and networking together to create local self reliance.

We have started. This is our 2nd year with a large garden. We are reducing our waste. I am limiting car usage and trying to do as many things on each trip as possible.

Here in Oregon it is really easy to buy local. I am sure that is not the case over the entire united states.
I really enjoy biking the market, picking out some choice organic food and biking home, burning calories to get more calories!Michael Scott
