Wink I'm not trendy green :)

Every few months we get door-to-door salespeople who try to sell me "green" cleaning products. I always tell them I already use some natural/ green cleaners... such as baking soda, vinegar, etc... some are completely confused by this, some are dumbfounded, some have actually asked me what brand... LOL!

Now, a friend of mine has gotten on board with some home selling company that sells green cleaners. She called the other night with her sales pitch and seemed to not understand why I wouldn't want to buy her expensive green cleaning products. I told her about the baking soda & vinegar, and she really didn't seem to get it... she kept going back to talking about the "natural" and "non-chemical" aspects of her NEW cleaners.

So, apparently my frugal home recipes for cleaners aren't green... I'd need to fork out some big bucks for name-brand stuff instead.

P.S. Doesn't all the selling and packaging of this trendy stuff kind of defeat the purpose of going green in the first place?

I totally agree with you. I just don't understand the thought process of some people.

crazy, isn't it? I love using baking soda instead of ajax - for one because I can breathe! I don't need lemon or pine scent for something to be "clean"

Yeah, I know what you mean. A salesman was trying to show me something and wanted to use my windex. He was dumbfounded when I told him I didn't use any. I hate the stuff. But I do use Vinegar at 1.79 a gallon to clean all the glass and windows you can see.

I don't use baking soda and vinegar - I truly haven't gotten the hang of - LOL! I do use Ecover -which is green - but I buy it at Whole Foods or order from Amazon. I used it in the UK and really like it - as it's multi-purpose in one bottle - that can be recycled or re-filled! Everyone is hoping on the "green bandwagon"! Sad that there is a marketing pitch for care and consideration of Mother Earth!!

I'm not very "trendy" green either. I don't make a big deal out of the things I do and most of them are things I do for multiple reasons that make sense to me not just because they're suppose to be green and the "thing to do" now.

Example might be laundry detergent. I made my first batch the other day and I will probably be sticking with that but if I buy laundry detergent I have ALWAYS bought the powder in the cardboard boxes. I tried the liquid in the plastic bottles once or twice and I found it wasteful as well as realizing that all that plastic that doesn't disintegrate. I found with coupons it was generally a better price per load as well.

My DH gets pretty pretty hot about people jumping on the band wagon and charging extra for these kinds of things now that its very in the public eye. He will bring environmental topics up and sometimes I have to tell him I disagree with him. My thoughts on the subject haven't changed but he never really thought about ALL my reasoning behind some things. This has him very confused as he thought I functioned purely on price with purchases.

I'm not trendy about it either. I've never been able to stand the smell of bleach, and I usually use my own cleaners just for convenience.

I'm especially irritated by companies who have always manufactured chemical cleaners, suddenly marketing a line of 'natural cleaners'. There are always people just waiting to profit off of the 'new trend'. It upsets me that making healthy choices is a 'trend'.

    Go vinegar and baking soda!

I had them come to my house and tell me how safe their products were. He wouldn't accept no thank you so he decided to take the lid off of the bottle and taste the cleaner to show me how non toxic they were. Weird!!!!

    Here's a good site to start: http://www.organizedhome.com/pantry-...aning-products

The only "store bought" cleaning supply I still by is regular old dish soap.

Being a total germaphobe (and for good reason) I will always have a big gallon bottle of bleach at my house. But, I do clean day to day with vinegar and baking soda and soapy water.

ditto! just the packaging alone most of the time is enough to turn me off a product. I learned along time ago not to pay extra for fancy packaging and lots of cheesy advertising. All you really pay extra for is the fancy packaging and advertising. And don't get me started on all those "healthy" 100 calorie pre-packaged snack foods...*head explodes*...
