    Default another plastic bag rant

Ok, so today the bagger did great using my cloth bags, and I told her don't worry about the 2 liters and such, no need to bag. She got down to just the milk, and hesitated, and she had to do it, she put it in a plastic bag. I think because it was wet. I let it go, and dropped the bag in the recycle bin on the way out. Too funny. But I made it home with no plastic bags, so it's OK.

I don't know what it is about cloth bags that confuses them so much. Glad you made it home bag free!

I have a problem remembering to bring my cloth bags. I need to get them back into the car. Hmmm I will do that in a little while since I am thinking about it.

I suppose since we are ranting about plastic bags, I'll throw my rant for the day into the mix.

Do you ever think that commom sense would ever take over with some people? Alright, you go into the store with a stash of cloth bags, get your groceries and checkout. You begin to pull out the cloth bags. Now, at what point do people begin to think......Hmmm, she looks like a person that wants to carry all of her groceries in plastic bags and a whole bunch of empty cloth bags too. Wouldn't I be creating more work for myself by doing this? Do you actually think I'm going to bring all these cloth bag into the store for people to admire?

Maybe she wasn't thinking: "Cloth bag. It's washable!"

I don't normally do grocery shopping or rather didn't for approx. a year while I was recuperating. Dh does it all, God bless him. But lately I've been going with him just to get me out of the house and I notice only 1 lady using cloth bags in over 4 months and I noticed she got a refund off her bill by using them. That sparked my interest! LOL

Does anyone get a discount from the grocery store for using cloth bags? I think I'll make me a few and try to see if it saves me money.

I re-use ALL of my plastic bags because I use them for bathroom waste cans and for packing of my Ebay items that I sell so I don't really consider them a waste for me but still.....it would be nice not to have so many all of the time and save money too.

Most stores give you credit for using cloth bags. The amount of credit you recieve depends on the chain you shop at. Usually between 5-20 cents per bag.

May I add a snark to your thread? I bring cloth bags to the grocery store. On this particular day, I caught some good sales and only had 3 bags with me, so they had to use plastic bags too. I asked them to put as many items in the cloth bags as possible. So I got home and you know what I found? ALL my items were put in plastic bags and then in the cloth bags! That is what I get for not paying attention.

Another time I asked them to use as few bags as possible (I forgot my own bags) so they triple bagged everything because it was so heavy. I had fewer bags to carry but I think they missed the point.

I have only found one store that gives a credit. It is a locally owned organic grocery and they give 5 cents per bag that you bring in and use. Would love if some of the bigger chain stores that I may go to did that.
