Default Homemade Skin & Body Care

I was wondering if any of you make your own skin care items? If you do, what are some of the things you make? I was doing a search for some organic skin care companies and ran across Kiss My Face, Burts Bees, etc. In my search, I ended up coming across several homemade skin care items. I was planning to purchase an organic skin care line, but homemade will work too. I found this one recipe for a sugar scrub and it seems simple enough. http://www.treehuggingfamily.com/hom...ar-body-scrub/
The good news is that I already have most of the things in my house. Now, I'm curious if I have any other things that can be used for skin care or body care. Thanks!!

I make my own lip balm, eye cream, moisturizer, masks, and shampoo from the recipes in [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Beauty-Home-Recipes-Revised/dp/0805070222/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216233595&sr=8-1"]this book[/ame]. It's a significant up front investment for the jars and ingredients, but I love knowing exactly what's in my products.

We make/use sugar olive oil scrub. I don't really follow a recipe just mix it up when I use it.

We use ground oatmeal (ground in food processor) for in the bath. We also use it to make a face wash/scrub (mix with water to make a paste) Some times I let the paste dry on my face before washing off sometimes not.

Honey is good for a mask when I am oily. Put it on straight from the jar, let it set on the face a bit, and wash off with a cloth.

I don't use recipes just mix as I need in a bowl or my hand. If I want to keep something in a jar I often use small cleaned out peanut butter jars. Old cleaned out Parmesan cheese shakers are good for the shaking stuff like the ground oatmeal.

I make basic cream or lotion using these recipes. Add a drop or two of essential oil or some fragrance oil, and you have it smelling the way you want!

I don't measure anything but I like to take some sugar and mix with a little olive oil to make a scrub.

I just ordered the book and it should be here sometime next week. I now have another question for you. Do you order your supplies off the internet or do you puchase them locally? If you order them, I would be interested to know th company that you use.

I just checked out a book from the library by reader's digest called 702 HomeMade things or something like that. Has all sorts of homemade recipes (including beauty products) and I am loving it!

this is where i get my essential oils.
    http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/

or i go to some local shops in yellow springs, oh. it's not that far from me.
what i like about nature's garden, is that they tell you if the scent is safe for skin, or what ever. they have taken the guess work out of it for me.
their scents are really good. if you would like to try just a few, they have a great way to try. it's the sampler package. i have done that several times, to see if i like something.
plus, they have some wicked cool scents like dragon's blood, witches brew, storm watch, spiritual awakening. you get the pic.

I just Googled "how to make lip balm" and came up with a bunch of hits. I'd be a little wary of some of the really offbeat sites because I'm not sure how...ummm...sanitary...some of the recipes might be.

    Sounds like fun!
