    Angry Frustation with recycling

I got a recycling bin from my water/trash dept I have to Pay 4.95 a month but I fill that it is important to recycle, however my problem is that we can not recycle #6 or #7 through the program, and trying to find out if something is recycleable is so frustrating because you can not find a number and you have to check the paper work to see if you can place it in the bin plus you have to throw away the lids which i fill should be able to recycle those also it seems that for everything I recycle I throw away 5 things I just wish there was an easier way to know if something is recyclable with out spending 5 minutes trying to find out if something is able to be recycled. does anyone have any helpful tips that anyone can share to help me out with this. thank you for any help.

Schellie, I know it's frustrating. My city only takes #1 and #2 plastics and I have such a hard time seeing in the little triangle recycle symbol to tell what the number is. I wish they would make those bigger!

You may be able to put everything that you think is recyclable in the bins, and the recycling company will sort them out. DH is a residential recycler and they are instructed to take anything plastic, glass or aluminum. And it is later sorted at the recycling plant and anything not recyclable is sorted and taken to the landfill from there. So you might check on them with that.

People throw the craziest things into their recycling bins. In one day, DH found 2 used hypodermic needles at two seperate houses. Of course, things like that he is instructed to leave it alone, tag it as to why they couldn't take it and he has to call it into their shop. But trust me...he's seen some strange things in the recycling bins!

I would call and ask them exactly how it works and what happens if you do throw things in there they can't recycle. They might tell you that it isn't a big deal. It never hurts to ask!
