    Default carpet shampoo

I lugged out the old hoover today to do some back to school cleaning. I was wondering-other than the "green" products that are manufactured and sold in stores--has anyone used any HOME MADE "green" items for a carpet shampooer?

I googled it and some say that a vinegar water mix works well...and the smell evaporates as it dries..have any of you tried it?

--ps--I used up my special carpet shampoo with no sudsing agent and scent in it.....but it is $$$ so I would like something home made that works.

I have used vinegar in my carpet shampooer and the smell stayed for longer than I expected (long after it dried). You might test it in a small area first to see if you can tolerate the smell.

I use Murphys Oil Soap that you can buy in the grocery store. It leaves the carpet soft and it smells so nice. I would think it must be close to being green.
