That is a great idea!! I have also seen on a show that if you are giving cookbooks as a gift you could wrap them in an apron instead of wrapping paper!!

I love the idea of green gift bags! I would have never thought of that but I am definitely going to do it next year! By one everytime I get groceries and I will have more than enough for Christmas. Thanks for sharing!

We've been using the paper gift bags for years. We just keep recycling them.

while we have been trading gift bags for years and years, I have decided to make gift bags with cloth next year and begin phasing out the paper. (using the sewing machine my daughter is receiving for Christmas--imagine that!)
My mom and I have been trading two special bags for about 10 years.

I bought 8 green shopping bags at Woodmans ($.75 each) and a pack of 8 large sheets of red tissue paper for $.99 at Target. So lots of my friends and a couple relatives are getting the green w/red bags. These contain a bag of nuts, some red and green Christmas candy, some kind of chocolate, some homemade canned goods, and sometimes cheese, too. I like to give food since everyone eats, and the people I know don't need much stuff.
My hubby's family opens presents so slowly and carefully cutting the tape, too. The problem is I rarely wrap gifts with new paper, I reuse gift bags and old wrapping paper so there isn't much point to saving my old wrapping paper again. (It does get fragile and rip with age.) It is cute to see old favorite wrapping papers cycling around, though. I have also taken home all the wrapping/tissue paper and bows from showers and reuse that for wrapping stuff and Girl Scout crafts.

I have REALLY reduced my use of wrapping paper over the last couple of years. I got a few free rolls that were leftover from a church function and they've lasted me for about 3 years. Not the prettiest paper but people don't care about that--they're concerned w/ what's underneath!
I have actually not purchased a gift bag in about two years either as I've reused just about every gift bag that has been given to me--I'll even ask the recipient of my gifts for the bag back if they are planning to throw it away! (I do so in a nice way!)
I think these re-useable bags as gift bags are a great idea! It's very practical, makes for two gifts in one and it's a gift for the environment as well!May Goals:
