    Default Water Reclaimation

I live in an apartment currently, and when the piping broke on one side of my sink, I decided not to call to have it fixed and instead put a 5gal water jug under it with a funnel in it. I took the cap and drilled a bunch of holes in it, and now after I use the sink to rise off dishes (without soap or chemicals) all the water collects and I use the jug as a giant watering can to water all my plants. Works great, I can water all my plants with 1 filling, and saves me from using water just to water the plants.

Way to go! Lemons into lemonade! (Sorry, I am so hopped up on caffeine I am busting out some silly one-liners). But, truly, that is an awesome idea!

Not sure about the value of not having the plumbing fixed, but I like saving the water. We save clear water that normally goes down the drain when you run cold water while waiting for hot, and accumulate it in 1-, 3-, and 5-gallon jugs that are used daily and also placed in storage in the basement.

    1. We use it in our distiller for drinking water (2-4 gallons a day). In the winter we also fill our humidifiers with distilled water.

    2. We wash dishes in a small plastic tub in the sink. We heat 5-cups reclaimed water in an electric kettle, add 5-cups reclaimed cold water, and we can do clean-up and dishes that don't go into the dishwasher after a meal, in about 1-gallon of water, instead of 5-7 gallons commonly used for dishwashing/clean-up.

    3. We keep narrow mop buckets by the shower/tub and use the reclaimed water to flush the stools.

I guess the point of not having it fixed was that I didn't need to take up anyone else's time. It is not hard at all to remove the connector on the bottom of the sink. Its just a big threaded ring that screws on...EZ...
