I hate high power bills so I try to keep the lights to a min. anyway and have a lot of the CFL bulbs in the lights I do use. We didn't participate in Earth hour.

That's me almost every evening, LOL. Turn off the lights!

We did it! In fact we got all our friends to come over..so their houses were completely turned off, and then we turned all of our stuff off (except the fridge and freezer obviously) and we all ate a meal by candlelight for an hour or so.

    It was actually fun.

*sigh* I had just come back from a flight so I actually fell asleep for part of earth hour (which I had forgotten about anyways but I'm pretty green already so I don't feel TOO bad). When I woke up I went to visit my parents, I let myself in and then asked about all the candles my mom had set up around the main floor. "It's Earth Hour! I thought you were the hippy treehugger, you should have at least remembered Earth Hour!!!" My mother trumpeted at me from the candle lit room...as she sat surfing the internet, ignoring the TV that was playing at full volume so it would drown out the radio, which was also on.

I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!

    2012 Financial goals
    • make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
    • pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
    • bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
    • avoid lifestyle inflation
    • improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork

    The Financial Goals I've achieved:
increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

I participated!! I didn't see any lights off on my block though
I went outside (fortunately a halfway warm nite) and sat at my skeleton of a patio table (no umbrelly or seat pads). It was kinda nice actually - the block was pretty quiet and the dark solitude was peaceful.
