Our city has stopped using herbicides. they have said, there will be dandelions, get over it. I'm all for it, I hate the thought of kids playing in parks riddled with herbicides.

Now that this has been put into place I'm waiting for the province to start working on the issue of water wasters...specifically those people who wash their DRIVEWAYS.
Most of my neighbours wash (rinse, soap down, rinse again) their driveways at least once a week. The way I see it, it's a driveway, it'll get "washed" when it rains.
I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)
I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!
2012 Financial goals
- make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
- pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
- bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
- avoid lifestyle inflation
- improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork
The Financial Goals I've achieved: increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

I'm waiting for Manitoba to wake up and ban all cosmetic pesticides/herbicides too. I live in a town where there are 40 different pesticide/herbicide applications from various organizations and clubs every year, and the town reeks with toxins on a regular basis. The air, the water and our gardens are constantly poisoned and spoiled, and it's making us sick. We also have a consistently high death rate, not just seniors, but many others; a week doesn't go by without seeing at least 1 or 2 Death Cards at the post office, in a town of about 1500 people. It's high time this insanity ended.
Recently, the city of Brandon published a list of all their "safe" pest-control practices, including using rodenticides. I did some on-line research last year about rodenticides, and they cause brain-bleeding; that's what kills the rodents, and the pellets are placed in the walls and attics of buildings and on the ground, and don't dissolve for years even when wet.
Looks like our province gets to use up some of the stockpile of banned pesticides and herbicides other provinces are no longer going to use. But then again, they probably got a real good deal at a price they couldn't refuse. It doesn't matter what price the people have to pay when it comes to their health and their lives. And at the same time, some pesticide companies are advertising their fund-raising to help send kids with leukaemia to the hospital for treatment.
Hoping this entire issue will be like the smoking ban; the other provinces will have to follow suit. Hoping that day will come quickly!
