If you have any old blankets, you can donate them to the animal shelter or charity to see if they can use it

Just so everyone knows, this last Sunday coupon insert had a coupon for a free can of Mighty Dog(5.5oz) dog food or $1 off a 12 ct. or 24ct. variety pack. I'm going to get the can and donate it to our shelter. I do the same thing with free cat food coupons. We don't have animals but our landlord does and they eat very well between us and our landlord so I like giving to the shelter this way.

I see a lot of people donate the actual coupons to the shelter here in my county. They keep a box full of coupons for pet items out by the front door, so that you can go dig through it.

That works as long as the coupons don't expire.

here's a small list of items that we always need here - so I'd guess that many local shelters could use much of the same -

    canned cat food
    canned dog food
    Bleach
    laundry det
    dish det
    newspaper
shredded paper (we use it for kitty litter)
    towels
    washclothes/hand towels
    sheets/blankets
left over pet medications (with label)
    shampoo
toys & treats (cat & dog)
    pens/office supplies
rabbit/hamster/guinea pig food/hay/supplies (yes, really, we currently have 2 guinea pigs & 2 pet rats waiting to get adopted)

Great tip about the little furries needing supplies too. I have two guinea pigs that are rescues.

I don't know how many others may do this, but we use plain yogurt (just a spoonful on top of each cat's dry food) - it's supposed to help aid in intestial health - really seems to work.

Also, we use plain white rice to mix in with the dry dog food. This aids in digestive issues, such as helping with diarrhea. This REALLY helps, and I also do the same at home when someone has an upset tummy.

So we are always in need of rice & yogurt - it may be worth asking your local shelter if they do something similar, and if not - they may want to try it out, it's helped us tremendously (with the rice mixed in, we save a little on food also, because it stretches the food)

I'm going to clean out the closet some more. I have a few blankets and towels, but what I seem to have a lot of is old pillows. Do dogs want those? Or do I just throw them inthe garbage?

Petfinder.com list all the animal shelters who have signed up. Under each shelter they usually have a wishlist. You of course can also call them to make sure it's updated. We used to raid recycles bins for puppy newspapers, and coupons. A playpen was something we always used to corral puppies during intake. We could get 15 at once to medicate, give shots and bathe. Wiggly little guys. Paper towels, cameras, printer paper, office supplies, storage tubs to keep rodents out of donated food. You'd be suprised what they can use that is just laying around your house.

I have to stay OFF petfinder........it is VERY DANGEROUS!! That is how I ended up with my little white guy that is in the picture. And I drove 2 1/2 hours ONE WAY to go pick him up. (don't tell madhen this!)

I will call my shelters (much safer) and see what they need. They will often put it somewhere at the end of the news here.
