    Question Worm Composting

Anyone done this? How's it work? What do you need to set this up? How much effort is involved? I'm thinking with six months of winter here this might be an option for composting. Right now we throw excess foodstuff out in winter. Otherwise we'd have to store it in our garage where it would freeze. Then in spring, when it thaws, we have "The Big Stink"! Looking for alternatives that won't turn the neighbors off... Thanks...

I was lucky enought to get one of those stacking worm composters from a lady for only $25

We have found several things they do not like excessive heat the worms will die

They will freeze and die if they get too cold though you will find them all in a bunch and only the outer ones are dead
We keep our in our garage year round itdoes not freeze but is cold so we find they do not eat as much in the cold months. but moving into the house is not an option for me.

oh if your dh puts an open gas can in the garage they try to get out and die and smell really bad when they did it through the drain and fell in water.. YUCK

They do not eat the seeds so I tend to week millions of tomatos out of all my borders.

the worms are supposed to move out of the finished compost to the new food. I wish they really did that so with the cost of worms we pick them out and
    put in the new trays.

    The finished product is wonderful
