FV Pat-on-the-Back: Anyone Find the Other Green Forum Boards to Be Snobish?

I have been looking around at the different forum boards out there for green moms and I'm surprised at how many are very snotty and snobish and just come across as being self-centered. Some of the comments and attitudes just seem somewhat holier-than-thou, like "You're not as green as I am!" I've been here at my safe little haven of FV too long -- forgotten what the real world was like!

I've given up on every other forum, on any topic. For some reason this seems to be the only place where people are capable of being nice to each other.

Amen! I've for the coupon websites to be horrible also. Questioning each other's "coupon ethics" at every turn. Just too catty for me. I log in, get my info and get out ASAP. This is the only place I ever post anymore.

I'm glad this is the first such site I found. Was searching for "Dave Ramsey forums". Thanks for being so friendly and helpful!

The whole environmental movement, IMHO, is holier-than-thou. There is a lot of blaming that goes on when people, because of their life circumstances, are not able to make the greenest choice.

    Again, this is just MHO.

I think this is the only "green" and "frugal" website I post on, but that is mostly because this one seems to be the most active.

You're right, LadyNada, other places seem to be centered around telling each other: "you're doing it all wroooong!".
Here, people accept that everyone has their own personal frugal strategies and there is a lot of encouragement.

That's why I started my blog about being "Grugal" (Green + Frugal).
It's not about driving a Prius or having solar panels on your house, it's about using cloth rags instead of paper towels, reusable bags and water bottles and line drying your laundry!
Check it out, I'd love some FV followers!

I don't know about "green moms" but I find it with almost all the "mom" boards out there. I find as a working mom, I'm either supposed to be a high powered career woman with endless passion, or I'm supposed to bemoan my situation about how much I want to be a SAHM mom but can't. Neither of those fits my attitude, so I've personally given up on posting/reading a lot of the "mom" boards.

    I totally agree!
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,

there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no

end of the world is evidently approaching.”

I have family members who have turned being green into a religion of sorts. It's become the new keeping up with the joneses around here (in my area).

I love to learn what others are doing. I may not be able to do each and everything in my home that you're doing - but if I can pick up some new ideas here and there I think I'm doing pretty good. The "Green Police" aren't going to cart me away.

This post kinda made me chuckle. I just posted a comment on your (LadyNada) thread the other day about the Purex sheets where you had posted a pretty in depth review including environmental information and I put in part of my comment "....Environmentally, I figure the cardboard boxes are better than the plastic bottles. I'm afraid I'm not "green" enough to take it much further than that...." and I remember thinking I wouldn't even SAY that in most places just to avoid the looks and/or discussions.

I also have never been an active poster on any other forums but this one as they just don't make me comfortable enough to come out of

The other thing I'm shocked at is how expensive the products are that they talk about. I just came across a site that was full of eco-friendly products... that cost way too much money! I mean seriously, what baby needs a pair of wooden birds on their pegboard? For $65?! Come on!

Being green doesn't just mean you buy only organic products and natural-material items. It means you do your best to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible. And that's where frugality steps in and says, "Ha! I created 'green' living!"

Not only that, but here at the village, ppl seem to "get" the never ending struggle between green/eco/healthy/natural/organic and cheap/free-after-coupon/processed "thing".

Support and eco-encouragement is great - making yourself look eco-great to make others look not so great, is, well,.... not great
